i run a 71 skylark and would like to run 10x15 rear rims with a deep dish but they will stick out to far, is the a axle that is a direct swap that is 5 or 6" narrower than the stock skylark ?

I run a 15x10 with 5.5" backspace, and a 325/50/15 drag radial. It all fits under there with a stock width rear. There is about 3/4" between the bubble of the tire and the frame rail. It is also important to have any upgraded suspension with reduced body roll, compared to stock. This will keep the frame and tire from rubbing each other.
If you still really needed a narrower rear,I would just order a housing from Moser, and tell them how much narrower that you want it. Otherwise it is just a stone-age fix.

No there isn't a direct swap rear that is narrower than stock, your only option is to narrow yours. I run 15by10a with a 3.75 BS, required 1.5 in off each side

could run a 64-67 8.2 there not as wide. not as strong either.

any idea how much narrower the axle would be ? and the 70 skylark had a 8.2 diff i think ? they changed to 8.5 for 71-72

I have a narrowed rear end in my tubbed out car, now fits 20 inch wide tires:

And here is how my old car looked with 15x10 with 5.5 inch backspacing and 31X11-15 no body mods or tubs to fit these:

Same rim just different tires (295/55R15):

You can only narrow a A-body rear so much as you have lower control arm mounts to deal with IF you are going to switch the whole connection of your control arm links we can narrow a rear to what ever you need.

I narrow 71 72 skylark 8.5 rears 1" and have Moser 30 spline axles to do this but for the expense the wheel offset is the way to go. Jim

is the enough spline on the shafts to narrow the axle 1" each side and just cut 1" of each shaft ? i know it is a bit of work but i like deep dish wheels

No,there is not enough spline on stock shafts.
If you are running a 15" wheel, you also need to watch spacing,to keep the bead area of the rim from hitting the shock mount. It is real close with 5.5" backspace, but you would also make contact with the frame rail & inner wheel house at the same time.
