The new C6 looks pretty sleek in my opinion. 6th generation is a long time to have the same name on a car. The headlights are also original, the clear look is much cooler than the previous years. What's the drivetrain? LS1? LT1? o No:
Hard to say just from the pictures, but the proportions look a bit "off" to me. It looks a bit too short, the muscle is there but not the grace. I think the rear mounted transaxle gives this and the prior generation a fat a$$ look. I'm a fan of the early 70's styling. To me they got the proportions right, curvaceous and sexy while looking powerful and capable. Those cars remind me of Catherine Zeta Jones the new ones are more Mary Lou Retton.
Drivetrain is a new 6.0 (365ci) LS2 as in 2nd generation with a transmission in front of the rear end instead of behind the engine. 400HP 400TQ for the standard version. Aside from factory ratings it suppossed to be the strongest standard motor put in the Corvette. Short of the all aluminum ZL1 its suppossed to be the strongest they put in any vette. Before the current C5 I have never been a Corvette fan. I am very impressed with the C-6. Its even priced reasonable for a super sports car.
Id say thats the smartest thing ever. Why put the heavy trans up front. All it needs is input. Doesn't matter much how far away it is. Could also mean less tranny wear as the drive or power shaft should take most of the initial brunt force. Though i hope the U joints are easy to change.
It bears close resemblances to many cars. However, on the whole, it's a unique and distinguished design in my opinion. As for the engine, I'm very excited about the new LS2, but even more excited about the rumors of a 500hp Z06.
I'm not sure it has U-joints the tranny uses a torque tube that is seamless from the back of the motor to the trans/axile. This also helps stiffen the car and is a load bearing part of the drivetrain alowing the frame to be lighter. If you were to look at just the transmision it starts at the back of the motor with the flywheel and than just has a shaft running to the gears.
It's supposed to be 6 inches shorter than the current corvette+they moved the wheels out to the corners a little more.
