Nailhead transmission choices?

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

I will be looking to squeeze either a TH400 or 200R4 behind a '66 401 in a GS. Transmission choice will probably wind up being decided by ease of installation. What will it take to make this work, I'd like to know so I don't have to have the car sitting without a trans for weeks.

    Thanks,

    Artie,

Here is a good thread on that subject. Adapters seem a little pricy since a ST 400 was made with a Nailhead bolt pattern from 64-66. The 64 400 had a stand alone valve body and did not have a VP converter. The 65 or 66 ST 400 with the Nailhead bolt pattern might be the cheapest way to go. You could keep the VP setup and upgrade the VP converter, or swap out the front transmission pump and use the 68+ TH 400 converters.

    Cheryl :)

The s-p 400 would be the easiest to do. The nailhead uses it's own case. I have 2 cases available at the present time so I could could build you a complete unit. Jim Burek
