425 Dual Quad Restoring 65 'Lark - help

    Hi all,

Anyone know anything about the Offenhauser dual quadrajet intake mainfold?

Does it make more torque at any point in the rev range than the standard one? What was it's design purpose.
I don't suppose it fits Carter carbs?

Looks like I won't be able to shut the hood with it on!

    thanks all, best regards

    Big Gulp!

    Nick,
    You must have seen that one on ebay that was discussed here last week;

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37730

I doubt that it with carbs and air cleaners would all fit under any stock Buick hood.
As far as more torque goes, that thing wold probably either make gobs more on a well set-up motor or drowned one that wasn't prepped for it.
...and only spreadbore carbs like Q-jets would fit on it.

    Robert,

I did see it on ebay you're right. It looked a smooth peice of kit.

And you're thinking along the same lines as me - it probably wouldn't fit under the hood, we'd just have to run it hoodless!!! [I think that's still legal here in the UK]

In fact I've got a sneaking suspicion my 425 dual quad with the original Super Wildcat chrome cleaner isn't going to fit under the hood of my '65 Skylark anyway!

If the Q'jets are 850 cfm I'd hate to think what the fuel consumption is - at 8 [yes eight pounds - about fifteen bucks!] a gallon for fuel here it's one expensive toy to take out for some fun. But it what fun!

I see no-one's bid yet - all saving it up for the grand finale! I really out to get focused and start collecting the manifolds/ fame & motor mounts, oil pan etc for my build. Good luck to you all!

    best regards

It should, if you're using the stock intake manifold. :TU:
Did you ever get yourself the right exhaust manifolds? :Do No:

    Hi Robert/dualqwad,

Shame about the air cleaner fitting - I was kind of looking forward to running around here with the hood off!

BTW - do you know if the engine with these 'Super Wildcat' dual snorkel chrome air cleaners was fitted to Rivieras as well as Wildcats, or only Wildcats? I really ought to check the engine code on the blockl and decode it properly.

Thanks for asking about the exhausts.

I bid on Frank's manifolds on ebay last night. It was sitting at $66 so I bid $118 and then upped it to $138 for insurance.

As I was reloading I got outbid by $2.50 in the last 12 seconds by someone called nailheadpoweredgs. Do you know him? He came in with 6 seconds to go and whacked in a $140.50 bid. By the time my browser reloaded I was staring at an outbid notice and 1 second to go. I kid you not.

I was just staring at the screen screaming 'Nooooo!' I still haven't gotten over it.

I've just put a post in the parts wanted section because I figured it would serve me better than keeeping a eye on ebay and the board generally.

    best regards

Yep, I used to have a 2x4 Rivi untill I ran out of space to park it. :ball:
I think that ebayer named "nailheadpoweredgs" hangs out here too, but I'm not sure who they are. :puzzled:
    Bummer on those manifolds.
I knew you were looking for a set.
Hopefully someone here can help you out. :TU:

    Hi Robert,

Indeed bummer on the manifolds - still smarting on it!
Hopefully someone here can help me out indeed - got a post from SpecialWagon65 already.

Shame about the Riv - I see you have/ had one from the bottom of your post. I also see you have a '64 Electra with work done by Carmen? Can you tell me more? I know he's well regarded. What did he do for you?
I am planning to get a set of heads/ HEI/ cam from him for the 425 dual quad. It's a nice set of cars you have in the picutre - what are they?

    Al, 65GS,
Thanks for the info on hood clearance - Since '71 is a long time to be running such a set up - you lucky person. Have you any tips on how I shoudl build up mine for awesome low end torque off idle - particularly cam choice - I'm n ot that bothered about top end power.

    best regards

    Al,

Noting that you have a '65 convertible can you please tell me what the bracing on the frame is like. I ws just about to brace my open frame and would like to do it as close to the factory was as possible.

Is it a C section inserted inside the open rails or a flat plate making the open section into a 4 sided box?

    many thanks for your advices

    best regards

    Carmen IS the Electra

I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with Mr. Faso yet.
I'm sure it's gonna happen eventually.
My brother (Dr Detail on this board) now has the white 64 Electra, which was nicknamed Carmen.
I've got the black 65 Wildcat, which the kids call Felix.
The cars in the picture are the two Buicks from my sig. that we still have sitting around. :bglasses:

    Robert,

Thanks for the info - lucky you - all these Buicks in the family.

    Starr,

Yes $15 a gallon - I bet you all wince when it hits $1.10 a gallon.

Now you know why the dreaded diesel is so popular in Europe and people think 2 litres is a big family car - poor souls!!!

But we all know better don't we!!

    stay cooll!

    Exhaust manifolds

Nick, what kind of nailhead exhaust manifolds were you looking for? I'm aware of a few that I might be able to get. I was thinking of making or buying a set of headers for my 63 Wildcat.

    Jeff,

Thanks - they have to go in a '65 Skylark. I'm putting a 425 dual quad into a V6 1965 Skylark - hence I need the 65/66 Skylark GS specific manifolds [or headers], 6 peice engine mount set, rear well sump pan etc.

The manifolds I already have are from either a Riv or a Wildcat or a le Sabre. I have 2 sets and can't identify their porvenance.

Thanks for asking and if anybody is thinking of going the headers route with their GS Skylark I'm a happy recipient of those stock manifolds!!

best regards & thanks - good luck with the header install.
    Nick
