does anyone know what designated if a nailhead recieved a carter or rochester carb? i've seen 65 and 66's with both carbs. never ran into anyone that knew for sure why.thanks for any info. Tom
It appears that the carb's were interchanged freely, no difference in specs. Brake master cylinders (Bendix or Morane) were also interchanged in the mid-sixtys. I suspect that they were installed in batches (or truckloads). In this era GM built 60% of the cars in the USA, Chevy was about half of GM output, or approx, 30% market share. Anyway GM used multiple suppliers for some parts so that they could meet demand, insure a constant supply, and not depend entirely on any outside supplier.
