    Howdy,

Is there anything special about an alternator on a Nailhead or is it a generic GM unit? Also how often do the backets come up to conver one over from a generator?

    Thanks,

dont think their that specialized. i took the one on my 64 down to a lil alt shop in a small town to get rebuilt and had absolutley no probs getting parts for it. had it back in a few days

as far as the other...dont have a clue what your talking about. enlighten me please just cuz i never knew you could convert it to a generator

The car is a 61 with a 364. It currently is equiped with a generator, since I plan on adding hallogen headlamps, stereo system, and electric fans I would like to upgrade to an alternator for more juice. I don't want to buy the bracket now unless its a rare item as the one I'm watching is kind of show quality and I just want a driver. About the alternators, I'm wondering if any alternator out of the summit catalog, or junk yard, will work as far as mounting and such.

    Thanks,

technically any alt will work but you may need to build a custom bracket

I think they are the ubiquitous GM alternator.
Just need matching set of pulleys for the crank, fan, p/s, alt+a/c.
I should have a set if you want to see a variety come on down to cincy and pick what you want off one of the parts cars. :beer

You good at tuning nailheads? I might take a trip down later this weekend if I can get the car roadworthy enough to take it from here to there without risk of it leaving me stranded.

We can try it. My Riv runs great, which I rebuilt and did everything. My one Wildcat I have no luck. So I feel kinda spotty on tuning prowess.
I threw a timing light on my Centurion and found it @ 12 degrees ADC and it really woke up with the proper initial timing, but thats just because it was so bad to begin with!
