Answer this post only if you are positive on this question. The 71-72 N-25 bumper looks to be the same but the holes for the tail light surrounds and the brushed chrome Buick name plate. My only consern would be the holes to hold the "U" style 72 only bumper guard on and any other holes or differences in the brackets or reinforcements, Thanks AL.

What exactly are you asking?:Do No:

Are you wanting to use a '71 Bumper on your '72 GS?:puzzled:

    A '71 bumper and a '72 bumper are the SAME!:Smarty:

The only additions to the '72 are the "Rubber" trim pieces (taillight surround), and the nameplate.

The Bumper Guard is "optional", anyway, and will not affect the mounting.

Both bumpers will mount the SAME. (I've switched a '72 to a '71, and I've switched a '71 to a '72, so there's NO DIFFERENCE, except in APPEARANCE!):Smarty: Do not include a '70 into this equation, as it is COMPLETELY Different than '71/'72!

    As an owner of a '70, a '71, AND a '72, I "might" know something about the Similarities and Differences.:Do No::rolleyes:

I like the '71 Rear Bumper, better (if I had to choose between the '71 and '72)!

On YOUR car, though, I'd try to use the '72 Rear Bumper, just to keep it "Original".:TU:

Scott, thanks for the reply!!! Owned many Buicks in the last 20 some years but know the 70 and back car like the back of my hand. So your post tells me they are the same stamping. I know about the center name plate and the tail light surround, as I posted earlier. Does the bumper have holes in the bumper in the same place for the rear bumper guard because the 71 guards are different. I think you know of me and know if I do something it will be right or I won't do it. The reason for the post is I may have a lead on a 71 N-25 and I would be setting it up to look like a 72 with NOS tail light surrounds and 72 only "U" stlye bumper guard. Thanks Again!!! :TU: AL.

    What about the rubber surrounds??

Wouldn't you have to drill :ball: holes to accept the tail lens cushions?? :Do No:

Brett, did you read the whole post? Do you know about the location of the bumper guards between the 71 and 72 ?

    Al,

The 71 bumper doesn't have any rubber surrounding the tail lights. As far as the optional bumper guard that surrounds the license plate, I would assume it would fit the same as a 72.

    Al,
You might be better off just getting a '72 Bumper!:Smarty:

As Brett mentioned, a '71 Bumper does NOT have any holes for the RUBBER TAILLIGHT SURROUND pieces! Also, you'll have to drill holes for the Nameplate, too, as '71 was "plain"!

As far as how BOTH ('71 and '72) MOUNT, they are the SAME! The Brackets are the same. The Bumper Guards are the same.:TU:

Rusty, I'm in no hurry on this. I talked to Scott Miller yesterday and told me I should consider yours. The only consern I had was having one as nice as the one that is on the car. The one that is on the car has been restamped by a 71-72 mold and the chrome finishing is like a mirror. In closing I would be interested in seeing one of yours, Thanks AL :TU:
