While "cleaning up" under my dash I found this ground wire and can't find where it goes or what it grounds. This is the left side of the column of a '72 4spd. Any ideas?o No:
Haven't had a 70-72 dash apart in years, but I think that should go under one of the nuts that holds on the gauge cluster for the fuel/temp/oil. Check the wiring section of a chassis manual if you have one to be sure. Regards, Mark
I concur, it looks like the one for the wiper switch. I replaced a cluster a few years back and forgot to hook that thing up. The wipers wouldn't park, just tried to go up and down. I pulled the fuse until I could figure it out.
Here's a pic of the back side of the wiper switch. There's a round post that sticks out of the back of the switch above the wire plug, but there's no threads in it or anyway to connect anything to it. I'm sure this is a ground, but I don't know where it should be grounded to. I checked the back of the headlamp switch and speedo, but found nothing.
I.m crawling around under the dash of my 72 tring to locate anything that resembles that ground. I have to tell you how impressed I am ay those pictures. I can barely get my fat a-- up under there without taking the seat out! And your taking detailed pics!!!! I checked the chassis manual and haven't located anything yet. Will get back to you WHEN I spot it.:beer
OK, mine looks like this... Remove screw "A", place hole in terminal "B" over now empty hole in wiper switch, reinstall screw "A".
I was under again. I don't have one there Dwayne. I can't even locate a wire or connector that even looks like that one fastened or loose? OOOH! I love these mysteries. I wish I had a digicam. But then again, I would probably be taking shots of my eyeball or the end of my nose or something.
Dwayne, That is the ground for the wiper switch. Remember, the wipers are fed hot all the time, and switched on the ground side, but the switch is mounted in a plastic dash bezel. Put it under "Bolt A". JW
Thanks guys. Yall sure are a big help. In the first pic, there is a stud sticking out of the plastic bezel right along side of the black ground wire. I thought it went there but that just goes to plastic. Doesn't ground anything. It makes sense to connect it to "A". That digital camera was one of the greatest things ever invented!
Hey, i don't see any doobies??? I don't see that ground wire on my car either. ( maybe that's why my wipers don't work!!!) You guys solved another mystery for me, and I wasn't even looking. thanks. Adam
Adam On my car, the ground wire comes from the same harness as those wires going to the plug to the wiper switch. Dude, if you could feel the crushed velvet, then you'd see the doobies!
Man! Make one referrence to a '70s rock band and all the closet controlled substance fans come out in force. Better hide my eyes. :bglasses:
