    Hey guys.
I've been trying to diagnose a bit of a problem that developed in my '65 'Lark aftere a long road trip to California. I am getting huge vibration when driving around 60 MPH that's like riding a rumble strip. I have replaced some worn parts in the front end inc. ball joints, drag link and tie rod. I have gotten new tires and had them balanced, I have gotten my alignment done, and have gone in to the engine and cleaned out the Carb and hooked up a new gas filter. None of this has helped with the issue. Now the vibration is VERY specific. It is completely throttle sensitive adn happens when my gas pedal is depresses about 1/4" and again on the way up at the same 1/4" from the top. The vibration is MUCH stronger when driving highway but still happend just a little when riding in town.
There is a "clunk" in my drivetrain when I drop the car into drive from park (I believe this to be a worn u-joint) and don't know if the 2 are connected, but the "clunk" was there far before the vibration...
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Much apreciated..

I'd definatley replace those U joints.... They can clunk & not cause a Vib. but can Vib. after they get worn worse... Might be ready to fail all together.

Still might not be the culprit, but if its clunking like that.... i'd still replace them & hope to get luck with the Vib.

    Good Luck

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

Kevin, you may want to check into the rear end as well. The pinion bearing may be on its way out. Also, check for backlash in the rear, but the 'clunk' sound like it may be the u-joint that you mentioned earlier. May want to check drive shaft balance, too.

I suggest the pinion bearing due to personal experience with a 10 bolt in a suburban I had. Seemed to make noise like a growl when coasting but would stop as soon as a load was applied. Turned out the pinion seized one day and snapped the drive shaft in two.

HTH. Keep us informed on what you find out.
