So, does this mean my wife's collection of Beannie Babies is going to pay off our mortgage some day? lol.

Those are some cool cars, Jamie. I've got a few Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars from the 70's, but mine are all well used. I will admit to have recently browsed eBay for a replacement Tonka Winnebago. My dad ran mine over in '73 with his new 240-Z - by accident of course, but I had been warned numerous times to not leave in the driveway.

When I was selling my 69 Mach 1 on Ebay a friend sent me a link to an auction for a couple Hot Wheels One a T Bird and one a Mustang. Both cars sold for close to my real car. 13K for the T bird and 16K for the Mustang they were oneof one cars given to top sellers within the company. That crap blew me away. I do have one gold redline 68 mustang

OK sorry to hijack this tread but this is a prime example of what I would like to ask members here.. I am a photographer by trade and I can really take good detailed high res pictures as well as post them on auctions and boards ect ect ... If you had something that was worth big money would you be willing to hire a photographer? Lets say something like this to take maybe 40-50 pics at high detail and post them for you as well as have them put on a high speed server for all your auctions...

Myself being a small time person doing this on the side I would charge someone aprox 50-100 dollars depending on if they brought them to me to photograph or I had to drive to them. Basically I would think between 25-30 dollars and hour

My question is would you guys here think this is a fair deal and most importantly would you step up and pay someone for it ?

This is a idea I have considered trying to market and really don't know if this would fly or not or if it is a waste of my time as people in general (including me) want things done cheep.

I have literally thousands of dollars in pro gear that I just don't use very often anymore and I would like to have a side job to make a few dollars.

Again sorry to hijack this tread and good luck with the sale

Wow, I've been hauling around my two sons Hot Wheel and Tonka toy collection for at least thirty years. They are 43 and 39 and these were thiers when they were kids.

I got stuck with them because neither one of them had the storage space.

Now it looks like maybe it's time for me to cash in, consider it storage charges!

Also have a beer can collection the oldest started back in 1978!

Trouble is my wife is a "hoarder" and would instantly know if some trinket was removed from the stash.

Theres a local doctor around here with a thing for hot wheels. A whole room in his house is dedicated to them. Rumor is that his hot wheels collection is insured for more than his car collection.

mK, here's my hint for that one. Put something else shiny that is of lesser value in front of her and tell her that you'll store the hot wheels a little deeper. Then unload the treasure. Seems dishonest, but in my case, the wife collects trash, and the "mysterious disappearance" thereof doesn't worry me at all.

My beer cans are older than yours! I save them regularly at the recycle yard...and visit them regularly. They're over in the back somewhere, I'll pick 'em up again one day. :idea2:

Hmm.. I've been talking about selling the HotWheels I've collected over the years. When my son was born I started buying them in pairs and letting him have one and I just put the other away in a box. He never really showed an interest in HotWheels but I kept buying them (to this day) and I've got a couple of large Rubbermaid continers with NIB HotWheels dating back to the 1995 releases, mostly variants, odd-balls, reverse packaged (facing left instead of right) etc.

I guess it's time to start up a website and start selling outright. :)

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

I bought 26 old redlines at a yard sale a few years ago for 25 cents each just because i thought they were cool. finally I realized I didn't need them so I put them on ebay starting at $5 each and I got well over $500 for them despite the fact that they were NOT is good condition. I posted photos showing all the damage, but it didn't matter, collectors still paid crazy money for them!

Good luck with you auction. You'll make a nice little profit. Enjoy.

I took another look at your auction. You MUST add more photos. It will net you a bigger sale price if you will put more detailed, close-up, clear photos of the cars. I asked some of the crazy bidders why they paid so much for my hot wheels and they said it was because I had excellent photos that gave them confidence that they knew what they were bidding on. Good photos could be the difference in several hundred dollars with a collection like yours since they are in good condition. Good luck!

    I'll second that!
Does your camera have a macro or close-up mode? Mine have a flower symbol for the close-up mode.
I'll bet there are bidders holding back because they are uncertain of the condition....

BTW, you showed incredible restraint as a kid for not trashing your toys! I loved to take things apart to see how they worked.... often destroying them in the process!

    Good luck with the sale!

That is one of the few I don't have anymore. Thats the Boss Hoss. I remember that because you had to mail away for it as it was limited offer. I did but I haven't a clue where it is today. I was floored by what they fetched, I have the original complete first two sets. The original set consisted of 13 cars back in 1969 or so. I have them stored away. Even have the "Beach Bomb" a VW mico Bus with surfboards, the Snake and Mongoose funny cars with parachutes that open up on the tracks and a few other rare ones. In all I have about 70 Hot Wheels along with tracks and the Varoom box. I told my wife that they are worth some good money and she just remarked they are worthless dust collectors. Why I ask? She said, well are you going to sell them? I told her no. So be it she said, worthless dust collectors.

To me I could never part with them, they survived the times of growing up where most my others along with my plastic army men perished being burned and crushed with rocks as most kids back then did.
