    Everybody Cut Footloose!

    Good morning class,

A big thank you to the one who posted those lyrics! Yes, I sang along as I read. :TU: And yes, it's early here in Valencia, CA. My motto today @ work shall be Everybody Cut Footloose. What a way to start the day, I tell ya!

I'm heading out to my FORD now Ken...yes indeed, top down, blue skies, and Kenny Loggins screaming Jack, Get Back! Just great. But Ken, musclecar dude? My Ford does go Vrrrrmmmm. Does that count for anything? I start it up and think "oh yeaaaaahhhh...." Might not even lower the volume as I turn into the lot.

    :3gears: Footloose today people, footloose.

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

I had the pleasure of meeting Ken's father when we pulled the motor out of the "X" last winter.....officially starting its restoration

One of the things I asked him was "What posessed you to buy a top-of-the-line Muscle car....and a 4-speed to boot ???!!!???"

    His answer - economics.

(Ken...if I get this wrong....please forgive me and correct it)

He said their only family car was broken beyond repair and a friend of his was selling this "car" bought new for their daughter - who no longer liked or wanted it - made Ken's father a deal he couldn't refuse.

....So it was their everyday Family car !! I asked "Even in the winter ??"

"Yes....when its your only car - you drive it whenever. I never thought of it as a special car - it was transportation. The winters were "Fun" though.....a 4-speed with that (pointing to the 455 now swinging on the hoist) in it made you be real careful....."

Im glad I got to meet him, Buddy.....and you too !!

Now.....I WANT TO HEAR SOME STORIES FROM THAT70sGIRL about Ken, You, and the "X" !!!

Did he ever streetrace the "X" with Ken ??

    Submarine race ?? :Dou:

    Alan-

Thanks for reminding me of my dad, always pleasant to remember him.

Yes, he did get the car cheap. He bought it in November of '71 for, I believe, $2600. If I'm not mistaken the car was around $4500 new? So, yes he got a good deal! The girl who originally had it had just turned 21, had just inherited a cool million, and drove the Buick while her new Porsche she ordered was being assembled and shipped from Germany. At least that's the way I understand the story. It must be nice, huh?

Oh, and I discovered what they traded in to get the GSX- a '69 GTO convertible!

Although I'm sure he described it as transportation, he did get his foot into it once in a while, not too much. He definitely was not a street racer. Considering he was younger than I am now when he got the car, he musta been a whole lot more mature! Funny thing is, when I bought the car from him it had F78 white walls on it. Yuck!!

That car went through 6 or so New England winters. I can recall trying to feather the clutch to get it rolling in third gear. Letting the clutch out in first gear, even at idle started the wheels spinning on the lightest of snow. And I'm sure it had snow tires on it when my dad had it. Imagine that.

My dad always claimed the the Buick was the best car he ever had for highway cruising. You could speed like crazy and not feel a thing. Steady as a rock! Incidently, he caught me on a regular basis with the speed minder. He'd set it to 60 and on Sunday mornings ask me why it was set to triple digits.

Happy memories, thanks. And Alan, I'm glad you and the rest of the squad got to meet him too. I really miss him!

I'll let That70sGirl answer your other questions. :Brow:

Street Races, No; Submarine Races, Yes

    Hi all,

Stories about me, Ken, and the GSX? There sure are many! I remember Saturday nights sitting around watching Fantasy Island (the plane, the plane) and suddenly deciding to go out in that hot muscle car for some ice cream at the old Dairy Queen. Only thing? It would be probably, oh I'd say, 10 above zero outside. Yeah, ice cream. Sure. Hey Ken, remember the sparkle in your dad's eyes as he'd point to the fridge and say "we've got ice cream right in there..." And you'd say, "well we're going after some soft serve." And he'd then point to the microwave... Submarine Races at Dairy Queen.

And I'll always remember the sound of that engine in the driveway as I'd be in front of a mirror acting like a girl getting ready for her date, listening to Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan... Totally 70s.

    Good night guys!

LOL, I believe you are right Jim! Actually, that was so very long ago, but it's fun to reminisce about those days. We had a lot of fun back then. Everything was simpler. (Hope I don't sound like a geezer)

That is so true about my father and that whole ice cream bit. He was just bustin' my ba!!$ big time! Making me squirm a little. And. oh yeah, we'd go like a block away. But I figured that was good enough. Hey, we were in non-descript car. There were hundreds of limemist GSX's cruising my small town back then. He'd never know it was me parked there in the rushes. :Dou: Good memories 70sGirl from a lifetime ago. The scary part is your daughter is the same age we were then. You and your hubby better keep an eye on her!

And I still love Led Zep! :bglasses:

    The Rushes?

Parked in the rushes? SSSHHHHHH!!! Dude, Dairy Queen, remember?

Yeah, she's 16. Jim & I should go try to figure out where Cali teenagers go out for Dairy Queens these days. Scout around. Hey! Now that could be fun. How many ways can we embarrass our girl? Who out there would like to share stories about their teenagers and clever ways parents could make them roll their eyes and

    Ciao.

I have to tip my hat to both of you for staying in touch. Not many do that after they begin to meander their own separate ways through the balance of life.

It must have been exciting too have an auto like that at that time in your lives. What I would not have given to have owned one myself at that point in my own. On second thought I might not be here if owned one then!

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

I embarrassed Kerstin really bad when her first date showed up at the door. I opened it wearing a pair of lace panties and smoking a pipe!! :jd: :spank:
