This one pulls the heart strings... I found this car in Tewksbury, maybe? for $2200 in the Want Ad around 2000? 2001? No engine or trans... Had hurricane wheels and painted Salmon Pink with those 90's gawdy graphics on the side. Had a bench interior, and an NOS radiator support.

LOTS of body filler. I began to look for parts.. John Schmidt, from BPG fame, had a 68 GS 400 hardtop that he was done with, and he sold it to me for $2000- delivered. He drove out a day before or a day after Christmas. The 68 was AMAZING! rebuilt 400, nice TH400, and a 2.93 posi rear end. The driveline came from that car.

I then met Bob Gaudette- a big 68-69 guy in Auburn, MA who had a BUNCH of parts. I got the buckets, steering wheel (15" sport steering wheel), back seat, short console, GS air cleaner, and a bunch of other parts from him.

    I then saw this car:

and decided on the maroon color. My good friend Dan was a paint jobber that sold Spies Heckler paint. He mixed me up a couple of gallons of Corvette 50th Anniversary Maroon. I had another friend, a significant drug addict that was an associate member of the Hell's Angels perform the body work. He hand sanded and buffed that car to a show car standard.

1969 GS 400. Stage 1 tribute. 455 motor. Purchased from Streetside Classics in May of 2022. Looking to change things up and get a classic Chevy pickup.
Paid over $50k & put another $5k+ into the car. Below is the listing from Streetside Classics when I bought it. Use the link below for more info and high quality images/video. I can also send more if needed.

I’ve put about 1000 miles on her since the purchase. I changed out the rear end to a brand new Dana s60 with 3:73 gears (had 2:92s not 3:08 as listed). Replaced the cam to the 284-88H from TA Performance. New springs, battery, wipers, oil change and minor misc. maintenance items.
Not strapped for the cash. I realize I’m going to take a hit here. I’d just rather sell to someone who can appreciate it more than I can right now.
$40k. Located in NY. Hudson Valley region.

I saw it when it was at street side in Nashville I was surprised that it sold for that $$$$ but I always heard there is an ass for every seat.

I sold it in 2004 for $11,900... And I thought THAT was high!

George, I saw the FB listing earlier today. It looks like the paint held up very well. Great choice George. I think its calling you back to the Dark side. :)
This summer I saw my old Skylark Custom Convertible I sold years ago so I understand the strange feelings.

Tony- ad states it was repainted at some point....

I'm out. The 70 stage MIGHT stay, but I doubt it. As much as I love these cars, I am done. I keep on finding MORE that I would love to buy, and the prices are "right".. Then I remind myself that I am done...

Ughhh. This was the first. Maroon Goon- which was close to being finished, was second (you brought that down to Crazy Mike in Kentucky), blue 69 convertible, 70 GS 350, 70 skylark, and soon to be 70 Stage 1…. lol

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Seems like the drivetrain changed completely also. Still a nice looking ride for sure.
