Let me explain. 70 skylark. just put daughter in car seat, whent to get in my side and door bounced back just as I was about to duck my head inside... Caught the window behind my left ear, as if that didn't rock my world, I proceeded to head butt the door frame with the right side of my head just above temple..... Good lord I did the croppy flop and then had to explain to my 2 year old why daddy was near tears.... Note i said Near Tears, I'm a real man, I cried later when the throbbing wouldn't quit.............

Buicks are tuff and they bite Hard.....

    Done that...

I did that exact thing in 1984. Head still hurts.

That is really something about a 70-72 skylark.... the door has this perfect balance. Allows you to swing it open, drop into the drivers seat while the door bounces off its full open position, and swings shut.
If you swing it open with too much power or move too slow POW.

I knocked myself out with my '78 Formula. I opened the door too hard, went to slide into the seat (anyone with a '70s Firebird knows what I mean) and the door bounced back fast. Window caught me under the jaw as I was letting myself fall into the seat, which rifled my head against the doorframe. Lights out.

Ever have the door swing back and the top corner of the door catches you in the back? That hurts as well, but probably not as bad as a blow to the head...

I once had a car with hydraulics. When I first got it, I knew nothing about hydraulids, and the 2nd day I had it, one of the solenoids went bad. I was bent over in the trunk changing one out and I accidentally arc'ed my wrench between 2 terminals which caused the rear end to lift all the way up, taking me with it. The latch for the trunk grabbed me right in the stomach and my feet were dangling about a foot off the ground. I then learned to disconnect the batteries when working with it. :Dou:

not exact but still got beat up

One night I was working on some odds and ends on our 69' GS. I can't remember now but for some reason I had to reach somthing on the ceiling above the open door (Window up). I didn't close the door because I had a work light on the rear window. When I came down from reaching the ceiling I forgot to step back, and then down. :Dou: That open window caught me right in the rib cage. If that dosen't take the wind out of you and drop you to the foor.....
P.S. And I have also had my head get slamed between the window and the roofrail moulding. Namely the tip of my ear took the pain.

In the 8th grade my grandfather picked me up after my only elementary school detention. He had a nice 2-door '73 Cutlass Supreme.

Well, the door was a bit heavy, so for leverage I put my left hand over my head to grab the top of door jamb as I pulled the door shut. Slammed the door on my hand. No damage, but it hurt for a week or so. I'm glad the windows weren't framed.

When it felt better, I was explaining to my mom how I did it - in her 2-door '74 Camaro. As I demonstrated I ended up slamming the same hand in the door.

    I did it too!

Truzi, I did that EXACT same thing when I was about 5 or 6 years old in a 2 door 77 Dodge Aspen SE! The car was parked on a slant and I did the same thing to get the leverage. You realize quickly, even at that age, how stupid that was as your screaming in pain and can't even open the door to get you own hand out! Hindsight is 20/20 right? :Dou:

I've also cracked the old melon trying to get in the 70 Skylark too. Ahhh.. memories!

    Rock on...

    That sucks!

    I can relate...

As you may see from my signature, I have a multitude of 67's. The yellow one sits lower than the others and EVERY time I enter, I hit my temple on the drip-rail.

    Ouch! :spank:

(The yellow car is also a post car, may make a difference!?!?) :Dou:

I'v had a few chuckles reading these posts, but the following is not a funny story at all.

About 15 years ago, I was working 3rd shift at a factory. Had a supervisor who was a total jerk. One of my co-workers, a nice young lady named Bonnie, got into an arguement with him. The arguement went nowhere, but a couple hours later she took her 10 minute break, and went to the parking lot to smoke a cigarette.

When her break was over, she did not return. The supervisor came over to our station and asked where she was. Nobody knew, so the sup made a few un-called for remarks about her, and whimed "I guess she just decided to quit like a big baby or something".

After the shift was over, somebody found her. Apparently she had slammed the door of her 68 Chevelle on her wrist, and being a rather "petit" little lady, her wrist was just small enough that the door jam closed on it. She had been there for several hours. Unfortunately, she lost her hand. The sup lost his job due to his comments following their arguement.

No question, these old cars can bite!!!!

    "croppy flop"!!! LOL!

Haven't whacked my head in awhile, but I did let the 2NABOT try and crush my ankle with the door a week or so ago...still aches, and I still feel stupid about it.. (danged 400lb doors!)

Burned a little skin off a knuckle today trying to untangle a spark plug wire. I bet the neighbors were wondering about a few of the words I said.
