Finally i am going to be able to get to town to get some metal, so that I can notch the frame. Hopefully I can get started on that today.

I will take pictures, and do a how to post on it.

Nice job with the car and the thread. I love a step by step update.

My little nitrous project turned into completely redoing the ignition system, and notching the frame. I ended up getting a new MSD distributor, a MSD digital 6AL box, and a MSD Blaster 2 Coil.

We got the distributor in just a little bit ago, and got the coil mounted and ready to go, yesterday I wired and mounted the MSD box, and tomorrow we are going to wire up the nitrous and run the nitrous feed line, that will take probably a grand total of 30 minutes. :TU:

I will have her running tomorrow to break in the distributor gear, and Saturday I am going to take it to my school's Mustang Dyno to see if I can put down some good #'s.

I have read this thread from the first to last page a bunch and cant get enough of your drag car. I hope my clunker can look like this eventually, everytime I see yours i want to work on mine but its in my field sitting rusting further away. But nice car do you have any updates on it?

Almost forgot about this thread. Thanks for the compliments, I hope you get your car going soon!

Have not done a whole lot to the car, I did take it to an 1/8th mile track pretty recently, and ran a 6.68 @ 105.29mph That converts to about a 10.53 @ 130.56 in the 1/4 mile. That was done sliding all over the place.

I did do some work on the front suspension, I got rid of the stock control arm travel limiters, it now has about 6" of travel before I was getting around 4". I ordered a rear drag sway bar from spohn.net hopefully that will come in soon so I can get that installed.

We also came to the conclusion that the rear end gear that I have in the car now will not work good running the 1/4 mile on spray. It is a 4.10 gear, and based on some calculations to do the mph that we are wanting the engine RPM would be over 6300 through the traps, I would like to keep the rpm below 6000. I want to make this engine last for a while. I think we are going to go ahead and step the gear down to around a 3.42. We are hoping that it will work good with the combo, and keep the RPM lower, and in the HP/TQ range, and result in a better ET. Because right now I am going through the traps even on motor at about 6K rpm, and according to my dyno sheets, the power starts dropping at about 5600rpm.

Here is my bad photo additions from the 6.68 run.

Tyler knew he still needed to work on the suspension, but went out for a shakedown run. His tune was perfect, and a 6.68 at our altitude, sliding down the track was a great starting point.

Thats what I was looking for was more pics I love your car, the flat black with the cowl and those wheels really set it off. Real nice car and great job keep the pics coming and the good ET.s going:3gears:

Here is the video of the second run. He backed off and just cruised through enough to beat the mustang.
This track surface was new, and slick. One car hit the wall.

Tyler, Do you have any pics of the frame being notched? If so post them or send them to me. I'm looking for ideas.

    Thanks,

Hey guys, how are you doing?

Looks like you had to little weight transfer to the rear on that run.

Oh yeah about the 10J rear wheels, I tried them on my GS"X" with 325/50/15 MT dragradials still on them, and the rim just hit the inside frame and wheel well, to the outside I had some room still.
Look like the 5.5 backspacing of this rim is to much for my car.
Will try it once more with a 28/10.5/15 tire, but I don't expect many change.

    Hi Robert.

Tyler had to trim the inner frame to get these to fit, and my have to mini tub it if we get it to sit lower.

For this video, we knew it would have a hard time hooking since we had not finished the suspension work. But Tyler couldn't wait to go check out all the nitrous work he had done. And the 6.68 at over 3000' altitude is a good starting point.

He has increased front suspension travel now to 6" and will put a limiter on if needed. Also, he has sold enough parts to order the Spohn rear drag bar and will weld that in and get that set up. Then align the front. Then, we will go to the track and see if we can be around 6.35 or so in the 1/8th.

I didn't take pictures when I was in the process of notching the frame. I get too concentrated and before I know it I am finished lol. Here is a really good how to thread from the turbobuick.com website it should help you out, the general idea is the same even though it is a G-body.

Spohn is starting to put out some really nice stuff. When you get the bar in let us know if it will work with tailpipes. Also they now put out the best lower control arm on the market. It uses sphericals at both end, adjustable, and the sphericals are like Curries Johnie Joint. May have to try them out.

Yep, I have those lowers, and they are simply awesome.

I will take pictures of the sway bar installed, but can't really test if it will work with tail pipes.

Congrats on the 6.68 1/8 mile run!
We will go in the 10s this year also, I just know it!

Ok, My car sits low allready, when we changed to KONI Dragshocks the overal height dropped quite a bit.

With Koni Dragshocks front and rear.

We changed the Posi unit for a Spool with 4.56 gears and now the setup seems to be right, gonna try it ou on April 18th and see what the 1/8 mile times are.
We made some test runs last week on the street, and in 4 maybe 5 seconds the odometer was reading 120MPH! That should be more like 100MPH in real life!
Last year with the slipping POSI unit, we did 98-99MPH on the 1/8mile.
