I just put my motor back in my buick but now it will not start. It will turn over slowly like the battery is low but I have tryed other batterys and it still turns slowly. It is getting spark to the plugs and I turned the motor so the #1 piston is up and adujusted the dist. to that. Can it be something eles. I need help.

FIrst make sure all of you battary connections and grounds are tight to the starter, engine and frame. Next I would try moving the distributor to make sure the timing is not too far advanced or retarded. (sounds like too far advanced.)- Just rotate the distributor about 1/4 turn either direction and see if the motor turns over any better. You will still need to adjust the timing after you get the car running to the correct degree.

    Good luck!

I tryed as the engine was turning over to move the dist. slowly both ways and I get some pops out the carb. I'm thinking maybe the order of the plug wires or would the horn relay or the other one on the fender well that the starter wires go to have something to do with it not starting but I think that I would not be getting the spark to the plugs if that was the case I think. Yesterday I had another car jumping my buick and it was turning over quicker but still not starting. I've taken out the #1 plug and held it to the block to see if its getting spark and it does. So it must be something eles. Right?

One time I forgot that #1 is on the PASSENGER side, was trying to time the thing off of #2 which is Drivers side front. Car never started, burned up the starter. Finally went back to the service manual and had that moment of clarity when I saw which one was #1. Just a thought!

At first I didnt know where the plug wires went. So I went on e-bay to buy one of the repair books that was printed in that year to get the plug wires correct but it would have been nice to see a top view of the dist and each one numbered to get an idea of where they go. But I did it by taking out the #1 plug and making sure the piston was up and starting the #1 plug wire where the rotor was pointing which was pointing toward the #1 plug. Thanks.
