Musclecar bash in Tulsa,OK Sun. Oct.16

Ok who's gonna go to this shindig. Chris Smetana and I will be coming up from OKC. Is there anyone else from OK or TX going? Maybe we could meet up for breakfast and drive up. Let me know. My email is crumleym_50@yahoo.com.

Is this event on Oct 16th that you are talking about (stock appearing from the stands)? I will try to convince my wife that I should go. Let me know if it is something else. I looked on TRP website and did not see anything else.

I'm headed down from KC with the hemi Challenger and Small Hurst if he gets paroled from matrimonial jail in time  . I think Wayne said somewhere, that he was expecting a pretty good turn-out for the event

I've had to cancel out on this. Would love to, but $$$ are really tight. I had heard at Norwalk that a few Olds people were going down from the Chicago/Iowa area (10?) but haven't talked to them recently.

Wayne towed a coupla of the Olds guys from Tulsa up to the Byron Mondello Nats a few years back and they got to be friends at that time.

Would love to go, but like most others, scaling down operations these days.

    Have fun.

    Hey Big Squeeze,

What are the times going to be? Gates open, tech line, qualifying, and run-off? I have to have some answers before the parole hearing! :pp

Gates open at 9:00, qualifying starts at 10:00, first round will either be at noon or 1:00, depending on the turnout........I've got the track until 6:00. :3gears: :3gears: :TU:

Well, we had a great time!!!............Turnout wasn't too impressive with only 14 cars racing (there were 87 spectaters) but, EVERYONE said that they had a LOT of fun and were all looking forward to next year's race. Low ET was Sideways Johnny in his GTO running 11.76. John Murray (A.K.A. Dr. Olds) qualified with an 11.85 in his '70 F-85 and won the race with a 12.01 beating Johnny's GTO. In his F.A.S.T. Hemi Challenger, Steve Hodges dropped a valve on his second pass!!! Steve won $250 in the Stock Appearing Incentive Program. I'll have pics posted tonight at Musclecar Grudge Match.com

    Wayne:

This will grow. It's just too neat to not take off. Opening up to the other cars is also a good plan, too. With fuel prices as they are, it's an expensive haul from out here. See now what Wayne Nelson, Steve, Rusty, Benoit, Charlie and the others have to consider for a long range event and my hat's off to all of you.

John's F85 is precisely the type of car that I was thinking of when we were discussing this venue a few months ago. I personally don't care for the rhino hoods, but with the high rise manifolds and a big block, you really don't have much choice. Lots of cars like John's running at Milan in the Buick/Olds get together last week. Fall air is awesome for times and speeds.

What's funny is, I only had one late model car show up (a Grand National)..............I had at least 10 different guys with late model cars tell me that they'd be there............
Putting on a race is similar to putting on a Christmas or New Years party....You have all of these people telling you that they're going to be there and less than half actually show up :Dou:
John really didn't want to go to that hood, but like you said, to run that intake, he didn't have much choice.

    Fun had by all

    Wayne,
Chris and I were 2 of the spectators. We had a blast. We should have gotten there earlier to see the FAST Challenger. It is a gorgeous car, nothing better than a Hemi 4spd:)
Nice turnout of Olds'. Hopefully next year Chris and I won't just spectate:)
More cars will come next year. The word will spread. Good job on the race.

    Wayne,

I want to apologize about not making the festivities. Weather was beautiful and I wanted to be there, but I need to better prepare with plans. If you have it next year, I will put my money down that I am going to be there.

    Rusty,
The Olds pits missed you. You and the Hemi Challenger would have been the coolest cars there in my opinion.

    Wayne:

I feel bad I couldn't make it, would have loved to be there. Hopefully next year I'll have the car sorted out and sanity will return to diesel prices. I can't even fill up my truck before the $75 credit limit on my Visa trips out. $3.29 Saturday, regular was $2.73 at the same station. ????????????

Just saw the prices here in KC for fuel. Diesel $3.09, 87 no-lead $2.36 (Missouri side, add .07 to the Kansas side)

I wasn't giving you a hard time Dave............There were a lot of local people that didn't show...........I was expecting to see at least 40+ local cars........Most of the people there hadn't ever raced on hard tires before and they were surprised at how much they liked it..........We had 4 Oldsmobiles there, 1 Pontiac, 1 Buick, 2 Fords, 2 Chevys, and 4 Mopars plus there were a couple of late arrivers that just did some time trials. I really had a good time, I just wish it didn't cost so much to put one of these on..........I did have a couple of people hit me up about sponsoring the whole event, so it should be a lot better next year. :TU:

It was nice talking to you and your buddy, Matt. Would you rather the Event be in the spring time......like late March? I'm thinking of moving it.

Rusty, your car would have been a great addition to the race...........too bad the matrimonial parole hearing didn't go too well.........

Two cars at the Tulsa meet

Got this from my friend, Craig Brown. His is the blue one, John Murray's is the yellow one that needs a nose job. Neat pic of two very nice cars. Craig said his car ran a 14.60 at 96 with a 3.08 gear.

couple of cool things about these cars. 1. they are both post coupes and the 69 is super low mileage and 2. the 70 is a -- paintcode on an F85. Both guys are great. Craig actually maybe picking up a car in AZ if I can find one in a month.
