The choices for white lettered muscle car tires is dwindling. Goodyear discontinued the Eagle GT II (in most 15" sizes), Dayton discontinued the Daytona SR, Dunlop discontinued the GT Qualifier, etc. So it's pretty much down to the Cooper Cobra Radial GT, BFG Radial T/A, and the Firestone Indy 500. It must be that retarded big wheel fad responsible for a good part of it.
If Im not driving a classic with white letters, im usually in a 70's-80's Cadi that needs white walls, even THOSE are getting harder to find! just had to buy a set for my 79 Eldorado and anything other than a black wall was few and far between. luckily I found some 60k goodyear whites for $75ea at wallmart BTW, love my cooper cobras on the buick.
Mickey Thompson S/T , Primewell PS860 (Firestone sells them), & Mastercraft, are the only other ones I know of.
I was thinking of going with the Mickey Thompson ST radials. They have a smaller white lettering which I find more appealing. http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/street.php?item=SportsmanST
I had a set of these too. One of the best sets of tires I have ever owned. High customer satisfaction rankings on Tirerack.com also.
I had the firehawk ss's on my buick at one point (though im not sure theyre even made anymore) and really liked them. Went with bfg's the next time around and cant complain about those either.
I checked them out, and they must have discontinued several sizes in them also. Nothing in the 235-245-255/60/15.
Me three. I went with the 235/70s am I love em. 4 tires bought, balanced, and mounted for under $425.00
What about the original cross-plys? Here in Australia there is quite an interest in returing to the Polyglass-G60/15 Wide Ovals. I'm seriously considering G60/15 front and L60/15 rear RWL Goodyear Polyglass when my current BFGs wear out.
If you drive the car much, i think you may prefer the radials.... The bias ply ride pretty harsh I hear...
If a person doesn't mind a blackwall, Hoosier makes quite a few of the desirable size tires, but they are a little spendy. Also another option with the bias ply is Pro-Trac. But they are about as expensive as the Polyglas.
I thought the same initially, but there are a few club members here that have done the switch and report little difference in ride comfort. They have mentioned a little highway wander as the cross-plys don't seem to track quite as straight as radials. Dry, straight line grip was a little better but wet grip was much less. Sure, cross-plys are'nt likely to be an excellent choice for the frequent driver but they sure look the part.
