Just wonder what everyones preference is when it comes to there mufflers and how they sound? I personally am running Dynomax ultra flows, slight rumble which doesnt wake up the neighbors but at 45mph I have a bad drone in the cab.
I have the Walker Dynomax 17749s. Similar drone at 45mph/2000rpm. Outside of that, I'm happy with them.
My brother and I are both running glass packs on ours, he's runnin Thrush and I'm runnin Smithys. They both sound really good with no drone
I'm running hi performance custom made stuff ou: I just don't feel like spending 400$ on a set of performance mufflers on a 2k car. Some day they'll go out, and something else will go in.
I have really been thinking of glass packs lately. What type of sound do you get with them, and are there any performance pros/cons.
all I've ever heard is that glass packs are LOUD. At least after awhile. I've had more than one person say that after some time the "glass" they are "Packed" with burns off, breaks down or otherwise disappears and that's when it gets loud.
the x pipe is supposed to help, but I think it quiets the exhaust a little. check out MAGNAFLOW.COM I think you can order direct from them. Dean
Ours sound pretty good, his has a good muscle sound and mine because it has the bellflower tips has a very distinctive sound(like a big motorcycle),their a link to a video below. Neither of us have h or x pipes so they also have the backfiring sound to them when you decelerate (not real backfiring just the tat-tat-tat sound). I haven't noticed any performance gains on his but it already had aftermarket mufflers, mine were on it when I got it. As far as being loud, mine is a good volume and I think my brothers could be louder but we've both got pretty big ones (about 3' long) http://hotrodders.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10266&cat=500&page=1
Turbo mufflers. Just got the "could you pull around to the window, I can't hear you over your car" last night.
I got the same thing from mine when i went to the local dairy queen with 2 girls from work who were to lazy to get out and order inside... i was screaming "STRAWBERRY CHEESEQUAKE" at the top of my lungs... and the car isn't THAT loud... Dynomax on mine too... http://buick.unlogikal.net/72skylark/exhaust.wav for outside sound... for inside... http://buick.unlogikal.net/72skylark/enteringSloan.mov there's a quick video from the centennial in flint as i was pulling in...
dynomax shorties on mine too. drone at 60-65 mph, but i love it . really fine sound at idle & lower rpms.
im using Flowmaster 40 series. now my opinion is the performance ,sound(growl),design. are great.but the material they use to make it ,i think it galvanized .well looks kind of shi$$ 1 year later.no rust but real dull in color.but i am in chicago,my car only comes out on dry warm days.but for the most part im happy with them.
I tried Walker Quietflows on my near stock '70 RR and am pleased. I go on fairly lengthy trips and they have no drone but they still have a nice low rumble to them. They are advertised as having 30% more flow that stock mufflers. Guess I would put them in between a turbo muffler and a stock muffler. They have a 21" case length. Dan
