You need to purchase MSD part #8860 and 8861

    thanks that helped!!

    Thanks!!!
Got my new engine fired up but when I went to shut it off it kept on running even without the key in the ignition???? I later tried to fire it up and it wouldn't go? I used a test light and there was no power coming out of the MSD UNIT. So I put all the stock stuff back in and the engine fired right up??
Any thoughts on what I did wrong? :Do No: The MSD worked fine on my last car?
    Thanks Brad

Well, the run on is a common problem. It requires a diode be placed inline with dash alternator warning light. What happens is a small amount of voltage feeds back and is enough to keep the MSD box on. Don't know why it wouldn't start afterwards. Check all your connections. If all seems well, try another coil.

How do I test the MSD unit? I had no power coming out of the unit. Power going in but none out. I don't think its the coil as it ran fine when I put in the stock modual. About this diode wher do I get one? Does MSD sell a kit or something?
    Thanks Brad

Did you click on the link in the above post? Radio Shack has the diodes. That wouldn't cause it not to run though. How did you test the output of the box?

Sorry I'm blind I'll check the link. I tested the box with a test lite. And the ignition on. I'm wondering if I fried the MSD somehow?
    Thanks Brad

I'm wondering EXACTLY how you tested it. The Box applies 450 volts to the coil.

I used a 12v test lite at the plug that you attach to the cap ( 3 wires , orange black -ground and brown I think) Will that tell me anything?
    Thanks Brad

Nope. Make sure your battery connections to the box are good. Make sure you have 12 volts to the turn on lead of the box (small red wire) with the ignition on.

Remove the cap. connect a jumper from the coil button (inside the cap) and position the other side near a ground. Disconnect the magnetic pickup (green/violet) at the box. With the ignition on, short the green and violet wires on the box side of the connector(use a paper clip) Everytime you short the green and violet wires, there should be a healthy spark at the end of the jumper.

Thanks I'll give that a try. You said" position the other side near a ground" should I ground it?
    Thanks Brad

No, you want a gap for the spark to jump, about 1/4" should do it.
