Hello All. I have a new MSD dist. in my 455. The MSD instructions said the gasket is not included in the kit (comparing to pontiac/olds). It does have a rubber O-ring. Do I need to use the gasket? Thanx.
After what speedybuickgs said,I would call them and get all the info about that gasket. That's a hell of a way to find out about a mis-matched part. I know stock Dist. use an O-ring,but I would assume a aftermarket Dist.Co. would inform you of any discrepencies.uzzled:
Wholly molly Rob! Thanx everybody. I will check with MSD (I will look for a website). It sounds like David is pretty sure, that makes me feel better. I will try to contact MSD & I will report back. Thanx again All.
Doesn't really matter if the dist is a stocker or aftermarket, it should have the O-ring removed so it will slip into the hole easily, and fit into the engine all the way down, to see if the distributor shaft stacks the oil pump shaft solid. Install the dist, all the way engaged into the hole. If there is a gap between the dist register and the top of the hole you casn get a feeler guage intopm the dist MUST be shimmed upwards. Mr Gasket makes spacers, plastic. The correct install distances will allow the mainshaft to move freely up and down, when the dist is all the way down in the hole correctly. With the rotor off, the points cam should still be able to be raised and lowered in the dist, as in having the free play still measurable. Any loss of free end play would indicate the dist shaft stacking into the oil pump mainshaft.
