I have this friend of mine who is a big 63-67 Corvette buyer/seller. This guy is a major player who routinely plucks down 100k on a car. Goes without saying that he's a pretty shrewd guy when it comes to buying. He's been looking to get into a Buick GS and has been hounding me about selling my 70 to him. Just for the record, my car isnt for sale for any price. To me, its irreplacable. So I finally agree today for him to come over and look at the 70. I figured it would be good for a laugh or two.
He looks over the car and he starts to make his "pitch" to me. Im thinking "This ought to be good" . He starts telling me how my car isnt as valuable as I think because its not a "frame off". Oh really? Gee...I never said its restored. I always describe it as a "nice driver". He takes 35G's out of his jacket and offers it to me....yeah, as if. I told him that he wasnt even close :pp . He said something to the effect that Buicks dont command that kind of money. I think my final comment to him was ... find another one. :moonu:

Love it. I used to have a friend that had a vett. I would call him up and tell him to get in his "plastic car" and come over that supper was ready. That would tear his head up, but he never failed to show up.

Send that fat wallet over my way. I'll show you how to get that $35 large as a deposit.

Great story. I doubt there are very many vette guys that are Buick guys too. Seems to me that they are a different breed altogether.

I'm trying to get a mental picture of this deal gone bad. Did he have a check written out for 35 large or did he stuff three hundred and fifty 100 dollar bills in his jacket?

    Jason,

I think you might need to post some pics and give the readers a little background on this car...be SURE to include your discovery after the Robert's info arrived... :Comp:

That might clear things up a bit...and give some insight as to why that $35K wasn't so hard to pass up...

    Jason's car.

I have seen a picture of jason's car and i would have to say it is one nice car and look's flawless.

I can see somebody wanting to buy it for that much with no problem.

I have never herd the story on how he got it and if it is # matching and all that.

One day i hope i will see it in person at one of these buick event's.

I am going to the GS national's this year with my stage 1. :TU:

    The Nerve!

I think I would have turned him down on the basis that he insulted the car before offering to buy it. That alone would have required at least a good swift kick in the pants. Good job, bro.

I was at the track back in the 80s in my 71 GSX 455 (platinum mist, 4 spd, 26 k miles) and a guy came over to the track (he lived on a hill overlooking the track, would use binocs to check it out) in his totally mint 69 RS/SS 396 Camaro conv. He said he wanted to trade cars plus I'd have to pay $5000.

I didn't go for it but on retrospect I would have made out. The Camaro is probably worth a couple hundred grand now and the X maybe 75K.

I guess all those burnouts I did in front of his parent's house 20 years ago had an effect!

Him telling me what GS values are is like me telling him what 63-67 Corvettes are worth.

Believe me, if he offered 35,000 rest assured he thinks its worth more. Hes not the type of guy that overpays for cars. What would be interesting is what he would sell the car for 6 months later. I wonder what he would say about it if he was selling it?

Heck--on the other hand never accept the first offer anyway! He'll be back, time and time again. Heck--it's probably worth it to keep it just to get the entertainment value of this guy showing up periodically to wave more and more $$$ in your face. Good story. Thanks
