Actually just wondering what most people have, A single CD player, A Cd changer or MP3 Player. I ask, because I'm thinking about putting an Mp3 Cd player in my car , but a lot of people I know forgo the MP3 and just put a CD changer in their cars. I guess it depends on id you have a CD writer, but they are so cheap almost everybody has one. ( I do) I like the idea of having over 10 hours of my favorite music on 1 CD

Have you looked into the more expensive players that will do both CD and MP3 CDs?

I just have a cassette deck now, but when its time to upgrade I'll probably get a regular CD player with line-in so I can hook up a small external MP3 player. If I'm ambitious I might make a small interface so I can just snap the MP3 player in somewhere (of course, it would have to be specific to the MP3 player.

Since using portable CD players in my car, I've gotten into the habit of burning any CD I take to the car. That way, if something happens, its only a copy, and the original is safe at home.

I'm also considering an old laptop for MP3z. The idea is to hook it to the line-in of the CD deck in the car, and have menu control of a software MP3 player. Of course this route is more pricey, because even though the laptop would be a cheap used one, and dedicated to media, I'd wire in one of those LCD displays (perhaps somewhere in the dash) to show what's playing, browse music, etc.

I got one of those FM modulators you plug in your cigarette lighter socket. It broadcasts from a portable CD player into your existing stereo FM radio.

I love this thing, it sounds great, it was cheap, and I can take it out of the car easily for a cruise night. All you need is a portable with good skip control, we leave ours on the console when it's playing with some foam strips underneath it to keep it from sliding.:bglasses:

i have their NEO CAR JUKEBOX. it comes with a 20 gig hard drive ... but i put a 160 gig drive in mine .... mine can now hold about 25,000 - 30,000 songs at 320kbps using Constant Bit Rate (but i only have about 5000 songs in it so far.) ... it works pretty good with one exception ... the FM modulator that come with it is a piece of crap ...so using one from DEI is a strong recommendation if going the FM route ...

if you have a car stereo with an AUX input ... you can hook it in that way ....
or if you are not a radio listener ...you can hook the unit directly into equalizers, sound precessors or amplifiers.

OR...the NEO people sell an adapter cords that let the jukebox run from some pioneer, kenwood, alpine, or sony radios just like its a changer.. my cousin has this hook up and it is sweet. he has a premier (pioneer) cd/mp3 player in the dash ... it controls the jukebox exactly like a changer. the file names come up on the display as CDTEXT info...so he can see the name of each song.

the NEO home sleeve also hooks up to your home stereo which is great for parties ,,, no body gets finger prints on you cds...
you can also make playlists at home and load them on the jukebox using your PC.
it comes with a wired AND wireless remote, car install sleeve, home/PC use sleeve....
when you play a folder of songs that were ripped from a live CD, it does an almost seemless transition from song to song which is far better than any pioneer, awia, kenwood or alpine mp3 players that i have dealt with.

if you are just looking for an in-dash radio ... the pioneer DEH-5500MP is an excellent cd/mp3 player.
has a healthy built in amp. you can even "bridge" the rear channels of the built in power amp and run a modest subwoofer without external amplification.

i have installed 4 5500's over the past 8 months ... they seem to work great ..

the best price and shipping i have got was when purchasing was from "sell2all" on ebay. paid about 185 bux shipping included.

if you ebay ...use "pioneer mp3 car" for a search to get more info on the pioneer.

    rotsa ruk!!

I'm thinking about the MP3CD player, in Canada I can pick one up for 189.99 Canadian so I think that's the route I'll go, I've only got about 3 gigs of mp3s about 1000 songs, so the hard drive would be some over kill

    Thanks

i bought a kenwood mpv7019 almost two years ago. ran about 230 dollars. (DON'T BUY RETAIL! best buy wanted almost $400 for that head unit at that time)

it recently moved to my daily driver. i can put more than ten complete CD's onto one mp3 CD at high quality...love it.

i'm leery of any kind of jukebox unit...hard drives are not designed to survive repeated, daily jostling, and enclosure in a hot environment...i would question how long it would live in a car.

I don't have the name of the place anymore, but I ordered it online. Just type "FM Modulator" in your search engine, and you should find it. That's what I did, and there were a few different places that sold them and they varied in price.:bglasses:

Well I ended up going with a JVC Mp3 CD 200 watt player, It's in the glove bux set into a nice piece of red oak that fills up the whole glove box. Yanked the dash and put two 3.5's in and two 6X9's in the stock brackets in the trunk. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, no amp and no sub, but for my budget it sounds great and is plenty loud enough for me!

    sounds like a nice system.

if you like to crank it loud and it seems like your dash speakers are having trouble keeping up, buy a pair of 220 micro-farad 35volt non- polarized capacitors and insert them in series with your front positive speakers wires. they will bock outthe bass that the front speakers have a little trouble making and then the front speakers will sound a little clearer.

BUT FIRST!!! check your JVC owners manual and see if it might have "built in" crossovers for the front and rear ... if it does, set the front to about a 100hz or 150hz.

    yak @ ya later
