Gee Ken, you really shouldn't lump all motorcycle riders together like that. I havn't seen your video, but I don't have to see it to know that just because some idiot does something stupid on a bike that everybody that owns a bike is not like that.
Alot of people on this board ride motorcycles. I know several guys locally who own GS's and/or TR's that ride. The vast majority of motorcyclists ride safely and responsibly. You have to, or you won't last long with all the brain-dead people in cars out there.
If you hate motorcycle riders, then you hate alot of people on this board.

  3. Ken, I know you don't mean ALL motorcycle drivers... they are not much different than people in cars, trucks, vans, SUV's...there are idiots in every category of driver, although sometimes it seems the % is disproportionately higher among bikers...

There are plenty of users on this board that currently also ride motorcycles. I'm a former rider, because of the high % of idiot automobile drivers on the road... :spank:

I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't have. I'm guilty. Lets just say that it must at least be the majority of bikes on the road around here, especially at rush hour, that drive like they have a death wish. It really is amazing the stupidity I witness on a daily basis from motorcycle drivers. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have lunpmed them ALL together, but man, around here, it's the vast majority anyway.

What I probably should have said if I was using my cooth, was that I have seen so many idiot motorcycle drivers lately, instead of saying I hate motorcycle drivers. Sorry guys. You know I don't hate anyone on this board, so don't take it that way. I just don't like to see people endangering their life or the life of others. I just maybe said it the wrong way. :Dou: :beer

As a medical examiner in Fort Worth who drives a good deal around DFW, I have seen my share of lunatics on bikes and in cars. I am surprised how few motorcyclists end up on my table. I think the biggest risk to the riders are the drivers who don't see them. I once saw a guy with a kid in a pickup cut off a guy on a chopper, who responded accordingly. The pickup then began trying to run the chopper down, and it got pretty scary, but the bike outran him in traffic.

When I put a steering wheel on one of my bikes, or can sit on it with my legs crossed then I'll be "DRIVING" it. Until then I prefer to be a motorcycle "RIDER.":Dou:

There is a stereotype sometimes associated with motorcycles that we are all crazy riders. If you get to know a few good riders it may change your opinion of at least some riders, and not grouping us all together over a couple people. Kind of like the stereotype that all impatient, honking, pushy, opinionated, drivers originate from the NY area. :spank:

Just my .02 cents. There are many freedoms out there to enjoy, try some!

Point well taken jerry. BTW, have you ever lived in NY? My theory on drivers and "riders" around here is that because there are so many people and so much traffic, people will take more chances and drive rediculously in an effort to simply get where they want to go. An amzing concept taken for granted by people who live in smaller less congested communities. You essentially become a product of the society you live in almost solely based on the amount of traffic and populus you have to weave through on a daily basis. It's enough to drive you to.......well, move.

With regards to the Motorcycle "riders", and by the way, I don't "drive" my car with my legs crossed either :Do No: , around here, I'm telling you, they are nuts. I've read this and other threads and concerns people have about all riders being grouped together unfairly, and I understand all that. I'm not grouping ALL riders together, or at least I don't mean to. I CAN say though, thatfrom personal experience of commuting the highways, bi ways, and backroads of the NY/NJ metropolitan area for the past 40 years, motorcycle riders around here, the majority I've seen, ride like they do not care to experience their next birthday.

There are those that will make the argument that it's the "other" drivers fault for not looking out for the bike. I have 2 answers to that. One is that any rider should take into consideration that a bike is harder to spot on the road and that if he or she practiced the same defensive driving tactics and did not "assume" all the time that the other guy "sees" him, he or she would run into many less problems on the road.

Two. In other words, that means not driving between rows of cars in bumper to bumper traffic going 45mph 3 inches from my door "just because you fit". You still have to follow the rules of the road. Also, riding at 130mph weaving between cars, tailgating at 75mph assuming I won't hit the brakes and riding at 150mph just because you can isn't a real good idea either. But I see it all the time and it drives me nuts. The Harley guys I've seen around here are a bit less obnoxious on the road. I think maybe some of that can be attributed to the "type" of people they are. Mainly older, more level headed, yes, more mature, than your average 19 year old Japanese crotch rocket owner.

I would have no problem if one of these kids wants to do a flat out on a long straightaway. But when your're in traffic, or around people, or in the rain, or anywhere not condusive to riding like a fool, don't do it. Why take the chance? I equate it to the ricer (and not ALL ricers) mentality of tailgating, weaving in and out of traffic at dangerously close proximity and speeds to other cars. It's no different, it's just that it's probably even more dangerous on a bike.

As far as there being many freedoms out there to enjoy, nobody is saying the freedom of enjoying a bike should not be extended to anyone, but that freedom should also include an instruction manual that states to the owner to not forget that there are other people on the road who enjoy the same freedom in their vehicle of choice and that we would prefer not to be picking their sorry a$$es out of our radiators because they were riding like Evil Knievel.

    I'm done. :Dou:
