Hello everyone, Its been a while since I'v been on here and now I've returnd for some advice from enyone and everyone who might be able to help. If any one remembers my old topic about dropping my Buick 455 into my '79 Trans Am, then ya all ready know me. Anyway, the motor should be completly done in about 2 weeks and I'm a little unsure about mounting it. Poston Enterprises said I would need the motor swap kit "455 into a '78-81 Regal" to fit that motor into my '79 Trans Am. Now, I dont doubt Poston, I'm sure It would work but they did'nt have Poly mounts to go with the swap brackets. So, I ordered the frame brackets from Poston and poly mounts for a '79 regal from my local speed shop and their two diffrent systems and I REFUSE to use stock rubber mounts. I honestly think that I can use the trans am mounting system with the poly mounts and not have a problem but I've never swaped a buick 455 into a trans am before, which leads me to my question. Has anyone or does anyone know someone who has done this swap before? Mayby you could give me a little advice so I can save some money and time. Thanks ~Vinny
wut year is the 455??? if it is the '70, once u get it done send me some pics bc i wanna see that haha. bc i bet that thing will haul some major ass:3gears:
No! I don't know why you refuse to use the stock rubber mounts. I have used them for years and I have had no failures in any of my cars. Mike
Just make sure your drive train can handle all the vibrations and extra jolts that the stock rubber mounts would buffer. Otherwise things will break. Especially if you're gonna race. I'm no expert, but that's what I've read. I have NOS rubber motor mounts going under my Stage 1 spec'd 455 when it goes in. Solid motor mounts are usually used to extract every last God given amount of torque you can get. Like full race application. Unless you are planning on running 9's or 10's and you're looking for an extra .002, why bother? o No:
I cant find anyone how makes these damm poly motor mountsou: I think im gonna have to go with rubber:rant: Oh well, i havent heard any bad rap about them but id rather use poly since the entire car is poly n its not good to miux mach poly n rubber. AND YES, IT WILL HAUL ASS! A MONTSER BUICK IN A GO-KART TYPE CAR HE HE HE HE :3gears: ~ ViN
Are you guys cool with the swapping of Buicks into other cars? I think it cool, but the specific vehicle I chose may lead those loyal to the brand of my vehicle to be driven to sacrifice me or just be very, very much so... not happy. On the other hand, how would you guys feel about he who would take a rare GSX and equipped it with a Big Chevy because they couldn't find a Buick? As an example, I did not do this, but the example is reverse applicable to me, except my Gm A-body is not as rare as a GSX, but still not the token Chevelle.
I love the idea. One of these years I'd love to drop a 455 into a BMW 635CSi. That should really tick off a lot of Bimmer owners. - Freed
the 635csi is a pretty car, and the Buick idea is cool, but I would like it to still still handle decently (unless there are intentions to drag race it). But yeah, um, I'm planning on putting in a 455 Buick into my convertible GTO. Now, about those mounts for the Trans Am, I got a pair of GS motor mounts off of eBay for the GTO since it's virtually the same car, so I suggest getting the Buick-Nova-equivalent mounts; except that the mounts that I bought for the GS are identical to those already in the GTO, so I beleive that maybe all BOPs have the same mounts. I could be wrong, but I can swear by it, the two look identical.
Crap! I misread your post, i thought you were doing another F-body, ignore what i wrote. But if you think you could use your F-body mounts, then go ahead, but if you remember the mounts from the pontiac, maybe you'll notice the lack of difference between the two, maybe you can just use Pontiac mounts.
