More leg room

I have noticed a scarcity of front seat legroom in my '71 GS.It has the bucket interior. The way Buick designed the seat travel it would accomodate a midget wrestler but not someone not vertically challenged. There was plenty of legroom when I had racing seats in it a few years ago.I am not particularly long-legged(6' 2") but there is just no space.I realize you can fudge it a bit by using spacers to tilt the seat(thus giving in effect more space) or you can redrill/restud the floor.I would rather not get into that.
Has anyone else got good ideas about this?I have not looked at the track attachment points(on the seat) as to whether something could be done with them. All I know is that when I had the old rig out today I got a leg cramp when I floored it!! Old age perhaps!!

Thats weird...my 70 came with a bench seat and it had chevelle buckets put in. I'm over 6'3" and with the seats all the way the back I have plenty of room and theres enough room for somebody sitting behind me. My biggest room issue when I drive it my right knee touches the oil/amps/water aftermarket gauges under the dash. :Do No:

That is strange. My 70 'Lark also has a bench seat. I'm under 6' - but I can move the seat back so I can't even touch the pedals.

Just to add on, my 1971 Riviera doesn't have a lot of legroom. It has power buckets and I drive with the seat all the way back. It's perfect for me, but I'm only 5'10" any taller and there wouldn't be a lot of room.

I'm with you, Rod. I'm 6'-3", and my bucket seat always seemed to "not" go back far enough for my comfort. I actually trimmed the little bumpers between the seat back and seat, making the angle of the seat back a little steeper, but that made it just bearable.....I hope you get some good suggestions on this thread!

There were some brackets on ebay recently that someone fabbed up that relocated the mounting points 3" to the rear. They were pricy though, I think around $175 :Brow:

A friend of mine told me that he saw an article in Hot Rod magazine recently (in the last year?) about someone who custom makes longer seat rails. They article dealt with seats in Camaros, but it should apply to "A" bodies, as well. He hasn't been able to find the article again, but if someone has a stack of these laying around, it might be worth it to dig through them.

seems like you could make a bracket that moves it back a few inches out of flat steel

just take2 pieces of flat steel a few inches longer than from front to back seat bolt drill four holes 2 for the factory bolts 2 for new bolts in each piece put bolts through the new holes then bolt brackets to studs in floor make sure the bracket is under the carpet for a clean look then bolt seats down

it may require a little fabbing but all in all it should work no problem
