This story has nothing to do with Buick's but I can't pass the oppotunity to lay this story out there.

First lets get the setting down. I few years back my mom owned a '97 Pontiac Sunfire GT. (Pretty much a ricer itself, but American made). I was following behind her from somewhere in my truck and we came to a light at highway overpass. I am right behind my mom when this guy pulls up in an early 90's Nissan truck.

Ok. I quick note here. My mom is not old or anything, she is in her 40's. Anyway, my mom isn't really the racing type. She is not a street racer by any means. Oh and the Sunfire is a 5-speed with an inline-4. Which comes standard in that model car. And being my moms car it is totally stock.

The Nissan on the other hand had the exhaust cut off underneath and had JEGGS and Flowmaster stickers all over the back window. It was pretty loud. (A cracked out weed eater).

Back to the story. The guy in the Nissan starts reving his engine at my mom, so my mom does the same. Already at this point I am amazed my mom is toying with this guy. Anyway, the light goes green and my mom and the truck both squeel them off the line but can't do much cause of the light at the other side of the overpass. So, they get to the light and the same thing happens. My the guy rev's the engine and my mom returns. The light turns green and they both dump the clutch. The truck spinning one rear and my mom squeeling both front. They stayed close through first and then my mom scratches second and leaves the guy. Don't misunderstand though, the guy didn't miss his gear. After being about 6 lengths and about to shift to third my mom let off and slowed back down. The guy wouldn't even pull back up next to her. About a 1/4 mile farther down the road he turned off.

I was surprised but at the same time extremely proud that my mom has still got it behind the wheel.

    otter It'll be done someday.

I was shocked by my mom too once. It was back in 1970 my mom was driving me and my friend to grade school and some kid in a hopped up car, probably a nova, pulled up in the right lane and decided to blow past her. She didn't appreciate the idea that the world perceived her as something just in the way so when the light turned green, both cars took off and she blew him away in our '62 Olds Super 88. True it's not a Buick but I gotta give props to my mom for street racing a big block rear drive American car. I was just a kid at the time but I still remember thinking WOW is my mom cool! We traded that car in for a '69 Electra that years later blew the doors off more cars than I can remember. I literally put the 2nd 100,000 miles on that car 1/4 mile at a time doing the stoplight gran prix.

My dad used to have a Super '88. What I wouldn't give to have that car today. It was a convertible with a 394 4 barrel. I remember the hot and cold indicator lights on the dash. It also had a speedometer with a green stripe that pointed further to the right the faster you went.

Here's a picture of a similar one I saw in Reno 2002 hot august nights:
