Yes you will have to cut your bezel. Your DIN stereo will not completely cover the old radio knob shaft hole cutouts so you will have to cover that area with some type of plate. I used black formica(cuts easily) and painted the whole bezel black to match my Sony cd player. It usually looks like crap when you put a modern cd player in an older car, but it doesn't look bad at all. When you remove your bezel you'll see what I mean about the opening. No way could I have done this in my Camaro or Chevelle without hacking the dash up.

I'm glad I stumbled upon your posts, I just bought another bezel so I won't have to cut up my original. Good idea about the Formica, too.
    Thanks

I have a speaker box in the trunk that has 2 6X9's in it, with on ether side of the top motor. The top glass lays flat on top of the box. The back of this box make the perfect place to bolt the amps. I will try to post pics when I get a chance.

Looks good! I'm thinking about putting some 5.25" in the kick panels aswell and wonder if you bought the special kick panels with holes for speakers or just put them in the original kick panels?

would be nice not have to buy the kick panels with speaker holes. after all they cost like 80 dollars and I would have to have them shipped to sweden to...

    Thanks, Patrik

    two ways to do it:

    1. Mount the speakers as I have shown in kick panel

    2. Drill 1/4" holes in a circular pattern to similate a factory perforated speaker cover

Ok, but for the nr 1 alternative. did you buy the kickpanels that are built to put speakers in or did you use the stock ones? and and if you did use the stock ones, did you have to modefy them or ose a spacer ring beteen the speaker and kick panel to get enough clearance for the magnet on the speaker?

    Thanks, patrik

I cut the speaker opening in the panel.
In the metal behind it....I had to remove the small metal piece about 3x5 inches for the speaker frame to rest in the factory opening.

    daward Measure twice, cut once.

Not that my 66 is a convertible, but this might work for you too. I attached a quick sketch since I don't have any pictures to share.

I didn't want to hack up my low mileage driver like I did with my street-strip car, and so with some creative thinking and pulling things apart I came up with an idea to add 6.5's in the rear easily. I built basic 8x8x2" boxes with cutouts for my speakers. They're wrapped in blue fabric to coordinate with my factory blue interior.

I attached a thin piece of sheet metal I had laying around to the backs of the speaker boxes so I could 'slide' it behind the factory rear armrests. (I found it easier to pull the rear seat bottom, remove the two retaining screws and place them and re-button it up.

Wiring is all under the carpeting, CD player is in a ABS plastic add-on under the dash and everything can be removed without any evidence of prior installation.

***EDIT: Added a picture of the actual install. :TU:
