Hey Guys.I have a mini starter(Partzfinder)I am about to install and hook up. It has 2 large terminals and 1 small. Not sure if all mini starters are set up like this o No: I have 4 wires at my stock GM starter now. 1)+ battery cable 2)fuseable link 3)purple wire 4)yellow wire The + battery cable and fuseable links are together at the large terminal on my GM starter.Do I seperate these 2 wires on the mini and use both large terminals??? Which small wire do I use for the remaining small terminal??? I am leaning towards the purple but not going to guess!!! Any help would be great before I start ripping out the old "feels like 100 pounds" GM starter laying on my back!! ou:  Thanks Guys.Later,Tony.
Tony, The purple wire is the solenoid wire. The yellow wire is the resistance wire. You don't need the resistance wire unless you are using points. If not tape it off. The + battery cable, and fusible links go on the same big terminal on the starter. One large terminal should have a strap that goes into the starter motor. Use the other one for the + battery cable connection.
Hey Larry. Thanks a lot.Just to verify.I put both + batt cable and fuseable links on the same terminal(non harness to solenoid terminal)?? Later,Tony.
Tony, Beleive it or not, those little pieces of garbage from Partsfinder work good! I have 2 of them. Jeff
Hey Jeff.Well,I thought the price was reasonable  Now I just have to finish wiring it up!! Later,Tony.
The yellow wire attaches to the "R" terminal on the starter solenoid, then tees into the resistance wire, which goes to the + side of the coil. It bypasse the resistance wire, with full battery voltage only during cranking of the engine.
Hey Guys.Well..it`s done!! :TU: Works o.k too!! Pretty neat sounding, sounds a bit like my 99` 3.1 Lumina driver. uzzled:  I have a bit more distance from the headers,so I believe I won`t have that "Hot Start" Bull^^&*!!! I did last year. Now I can play with my timing/advance some more :Brow: Thanks again to Larry!! Later,Tony.
Tony, I'm running about 16* initial, and I was having hot start problems. Part of it I'm sure was that my stock starter was just tired. Just to be sure, I bought some stick on heat reflective material, and wrapped the solenoid and as much of the mini starter as possible. I now have zero problems no matter how hot it gets. Between the MSD, and this new starter, the motor starts instantly.
My starter has 4 terminals, one of them an "R" terminal. I don't need the yellow wire, so I taped it off. On a 3 terminal starter, I suppose you could put it on the "S" terminal, and you would get battery votage at that point.
Hey Larry.I may go with a heat wrap,I will play it by ear.I plan on trying a bump in my initial from 12* to 14*,and see how it starts and if it "pings" also. You are right about the quick starting,I notice the MSD`s effects also :TU: Later,Tony.
Hopefully, the starter shield I got from Dan & Beth will cure my starting woes in the pits this year. I bought a mini starter this Spring, but I don't want to install it if I don't have to. Thanks for the reply Don...
Hi I have the same issue with my new mini starter and a points style ignition. Where does one get an inline 10amp diode?
