Yes There is a mini spool NO full spool that I know of at this time.... I see you have a Riv. That would not be a 8.2 10 bolt. Just checking to be sure what your buying for. Jim

    Thanks for your reply!
Im using a 8.5 now, for this rear end are more aftermarket parts available.
Its not for the Riviera, need it for a 71 skylark.

Keep in mind, to check to see if mini spools are legal. The last time I looked they were illegal to use. I also think the rules state that you must use after market axles if you use a spool.......

Mini spools and welded diffs have been illegal in NHRA and IHRA Canada/USA for decades unless they have recently changed the rules. I looked at the rule books and the only thing they listed as being legal was a "spool" and when ever using a spool you MUST use stronger/update certified after market axles because a spool is not as forgiving as clutch packs etc.

A mini spool is not as stong as a spool. A mini spool transfers power through the cross shaft and I am sure you being a diff guy you have seen the hole longate and snap the cross shaft retainer bolt oppsoded to a spool that has no guts (one solid part)

Also in NHRA and IHRA, Canada and US you must use after market axles and have c-clip eliminator kits which the 8.5 diff has from the factory not like a 12 bolt.

Yes as far as I know running a spool or fully locked diff of any type on the street is not legal in Canada or the US. But that said the only way they would most likely check for a spool is if the cops pulled you over and issued you a inspection or you crashed into someone with a muscle/hotrod and caused death where they inspect your car with a fine tooth comb.

I think Bastian is referring to the 8.2 in his Skylark.......

lol. right... YOU THINK anyone REALLY FOLLOWS that... NOS IS ALSO ILLEGAL. Do you speed when on the highway? Well that is also illegal.

NHRA/ IHRA I would fear more than police ...but again it will only be knowledgeable if you were to break and injure some one or your self in a crash etc. They will investigate. Trust me they do not tear rear ends apart in the tech inspection. :)

SO - take that all with a grain of Salt so to speak. There is NO WAY any Police officer is ever going to check out the rear differential ...I am sure your exhaust will cause you more of a head with them. :D
We have tons of guys running mini spool and FULL SPOOL on the street...Not to say that is correct or right.... but it is what it is. I am no baby sitter.

You guys are funny. I did not think there was anyone still fearful of the law....lol.

We have people whipping out GUNS and killing people left and right. .... DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE SPOOL THING.

That is a disclaimer for the manufacturer ONLY! So they can build an item and you can buy it.

Another example - We can in Ohio SELL FIREWORKS....BUT you are not aloud to light them off in Ohio. You have to sight a disclaimer that you will leave the state to blow them off. ???? Nice huh? I personally do not do it...BUT you can bet and I know in my neighbor hood they go off A LOT around the summer Holidays. :D

    Good luck, Jim

I am in no way condoning breaking the law...BUT this would be a a hand slap if anything. THIS SHOULD BE EACH PERSONS DECISION AS THERE IS ALWAYS RISKS EVERYDAY YOU WAKE UP.

Mini spool is a band aid. BTW 2 of my street/strip cars have spool's, all I am saying is if you are going to do it do it right.

Send your fire works up here we bast them off all year round:laugh: When we lived on the west coast it was illegal to set fire works off all because some drunk roundy rounder set his neighbours on fire :TU:
