Hello Everyone, Anybody out there running a mechanical fuel pump on 500+hp 455? I am currently running a high performance electric pump but am fed up with the noise and having keep checking it and or fixing it. Well, I got to looking at some options. The standard Stg 1 pump just will not cut it. This leaves the high performance/race pumps. This I thought left us with only the new and impressive billet pump that Trisheild offer. In speaking to Jim I found him very helpfull and the pump would certainly fit my requirements to replace that now somewhat anoying electric pump. I wanted to know a little more so I contacted my old friend Mike Phillips at Automotive Machine & Performance in Kentucky to see if he had any first hand experience with the Trisheild pump. He had no knowledge of the pump but did give me some other options...... Readers of Popular Hot Rodding may recall the Engine Masters dyno session in which AM&P finished 3rd in the Southern heat with an impressive score of 1030.1 points. This was from a real street engine with another billet mechanical fuel pump. The pump is made and marketed by CV products and is actually a SB Chevy piece fitted with a Buick pump arm. The mounting holes are already 3/8 and so will help in mounting and clearing your double roller timing set. Sounds good...... www.cvproducts.com - They offer 2 levels of billet pump #CV2506 MEDIUM PRESSURE or #CV2507 BLUE SPRING HIGH PRESSURE and also offer all the parts to service and rebuild the pump when /if required. AM&P used the CV2507 pump for the Engine Masters and said it must be used with a regulator. In speaking to Mike he said he would be prepared to obtain and sell the pumps CV2506 = $325.20 & CV2507= $335.41 this is the same as CV sells them for. AM&P also take credit cards. For more information contact Mile @ AM&P on ( 270) 729 5556 or e-mail AMPMIKE@ aol.com or check out the CV Products web site. Just gives us some other options.
I think if you had asked Jim W. a few more questions you might have found out this is the pump he's re-selling. I may be wrong (been there before) but I think he mentioned to me that his was a CV products pump. Also seems like the price is about the same... What I can add is that I try to steer EVERYONE away from the Mr. Gasket type mechanical pumps. Have owned 2 of them. First was bad out of the box the second was bad 30 miles later, and stranded me about 2 miles from the drag strip. Got to see a lot of people wave and honk at me that day...:af: But I can also respect the fact that this pump is about 3X more money. I've just gotten fed up over the last few years with my car, buying the "good deal" parts. Seems almost every "good deal" has either cost me more money and/or a lot of time. With my current job the time (within reason) has more value than the cash. AM&P is certainly a well known and respected bunch of guys, but I've had situations where I needed a bit of tech support and Jim W. has pretty much picked up the phone whenever I call. With that in mind I've been spending more of my cash (and less of my time doing things twice!) with Tri Shield. As usual your mileage may vary.... regards
check out the new pump (extremely quiet) from Weldon Pump. I saw an add for it in the April issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine, on page 112. Its called the Flo-Thru 600. I think its a new product for them because I could not find it on their web site. which was weldon@bright.net
Hi Ken, Just like you, I have spent money over the years I rather had not. That was the reason I spoke with Mike at AM&P. Because as Jim has helped you out over the years, Mike has been a real support to my Buick efforts 1000's of miles away on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. For until I spoke to Mike I had not even heard of CV Products, all I wanted was for some one to tell me, other than the vendor, that this is a good fuel pump and indeed they have. Thanks.
