Maybe Gary can pipe in on his drivetrain combo.....Definitely a nice, unique, and FAST ride.

Here's the "break down"; 13.6 to 1, 470ci, aluminum rodded, partially filled block, TA Track Eliminator heads (ported), TA 1.7 roller rockers, SRE fab. valve covers, "large" solid lifter cam, Lemons 2 1/8 to 2 1/4 step headers,4in exhaust w/ cross over & race bullet mufflers. Peterson external belt driven oil pump, fed by a -16 external oil line, block has all oil mods. lifter bore girdles, halo girdle, main girdle, maziere electric water pump, SP2 intake (ported) w/1050 dominator, and a Nitrous Express "gemeni twin" plate system (50 - 300hp) with seperate fuel system.MOROSO 4 vane vac. pump with aerospace equip. regulator. Trans is a Mikes' Ultimate th400 w/ brake and 4500 stall, to Ford 9in. w/3.70 gear. Mickey Thompson 29.5x11.5 slicks and 29in front runners, Wilwood front discs, Bogart "superfly light" front rims and CRAGAR 15x10 rears. Car has full cage,Cheetah shifter and several Autometer gages, lexan windows, and I'm waiting for fiberglass front & rear bumpers, hope to get the weight under 3300lbs. without me. Ignition is MSD digital 7, with MSD distrubitor & Pro cap and 8.5 plug wires. I also have a 8 gallon fuel cell feeding an Aeromotive A2000 pump, -10 line to the regulator. I haven't had it to the track yet, but very soon, hope for low 9's, maybe a high 8. I think that's it, may have forgotten something.
Car has been very difficult, has really tested my patience, car has been "down" for just over 3 years, and I can't wait to get it out and open it up!

Whoa, looks like I have a long way to go to make those kind of times.

You mentioned the testing of your patience. How about us learning from some of your trials an tribulations?

What's that front-spoiler-lookin'-thing, hangin' under the front bumper? It looks like something I might be interested in!

    Wow

Beautiful car and Gary Giessen is a great guy too. He came to my rescue with SSM bar installation directions. Thanks Gary!:TU:

Nicely done...you don't see many 8-9 second Skylark convertibles around these days.

Doug H., Yes that's a spoiler up there. With the car being down for a long time, my friend was talking to me about aerodynamics, and he had a book about this topic that he let me read, we both thought that a front spoiler would help clean up the "dirty air" that goes under and around the car at speed. So I bought some aluminum and made the spoiler you see on the car, about 5 small brackets hold it to the bottom of the bumper, I had the time, it was pretty cheap, and it seemed like a great idea. The problem is that it may not work when I get the fiberglass front bumper, when I get it, then I'll see if I can keep it. I'm pretty sure it will hold up at speed, I may also put some left over lexan behind the grille to even do more of getting rid of that "dirty air". I'm still not sure how hot or cold this motor will run. Also thought about a small rear spoiler, but may be getting carried away. The convert. top is another "issue" but with wrist restraints, I can race the car with the top down.

    wrist restraints?

Gary G., I have to ask...you intrigued me by stating that you could race with your top down. Care to elaborate?:Do No:

Hey Paul, when I race the car the convert. top "balloons" up, quite a conversation piece in the pits. Pretty sure it's from the high pressure difference going over the top, and the low press. inside the car. I've tried everything to prevent this, cracking the windows an inch, running with the back window unzipped and open, even duct tape across the front where the top meets the windshield. this may be slowing the car down some, and my 9 or 8 second passes may be unrealistic, with the top up but, like an "open cockpit" race car, as long as you have wrist restraints to keep the arms inside the vehicle area, I can race with the top down. The restraints attach in to the latch of the lap belt. My friend used to race his '65 Chevelle convert., his top ballooning would unload the rear suspension about 1000ft. out, running 10.0's, 454ci with 250 shot of juice, but car was much heavier than mine is.

It is the overall shape of the top that creates the low pressure gradiant on the top side just like any other air foiled shaped surface. The same low pressure area is there for the same shaped hardtop but you do not get the visual cue because the metal does not deform so bad.

The same principle is used to design air foils for aircraft wings and propellers. We call it the tendancy of the shape to develop 'lift".

Bernuoli mathmatically describes this phenomenon with infamous equation. His principle was and still is used by many a professor to torture young engineering students.
