Me: 1....Squirrel: 0

  1. I've FINALLY caught the freakin' squirrel that decided to take up residence in my garage this summer... It was one of those little red squirrels, not a big gray variety. Last week I cleaned out 20 GALLONS of black walnuts that he had stashed up in the soffit of the garage, for winter snacking. I have a very large Black Walnut tree in my back yard. A couple days ago I moved some stuff around, and patched off the access he had "created" for himself to get in and out of the garage. Then, without his stash of walnuts, he couldn't resist the live trap I set up, with walnuts as the bait. This is where my GS sleeps for the winter...so this little guy needed to be :spank: . Next summer I'm going to have to be vigilant about looking for signs of new "doors" to the garage... This is the 2nd time they've found a way in, and they don't leave without a fight :af: . And they make a hell of a mess when they sit up in the rafters and shred the husks off the walnuts. I would be soooo pissed if they decided to chew on the wiring, etc.... :stmad:

I've never had trouble with squirrels, but my dad had trouble with mice... one decided to make a nest in the airbox in his Jeep, it used the TP he keeps behind the seat.

Boy I'll bet that was a surprise when you opened the hood on that! I bought a 90 5.0 mustang back in 91 that had 6000 miles on it. I got it home and started checking it out and there were walnuts or something under the intake plenum! I'll bet there was a squirrel somewhere that was pissed when he found his stash was gone! Those little bastards sit up in the trees at my home and pelt us and the dog with acorns around this time of year. I know they are doing it on purpose! Wait until they get a look at Mr. Wingmaster pointing their way! :blast: Brian

  8. I would be soooo pissed if I opened my hood and found a mess like that... fortunately my squirrel found space up in the soffit and rafters, and ignored my GS. I set the trap again, in case there's a mate still up there somewhere. :puzzled:

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

Try setting off a couple of M-80's in the garage with the doors and windows closed. The concussion of the balst will usually scare them away for good.:blast: Plus, M-80's are COOL!!:Brow:

  14. :puzzled: And maybe remove all the garage window glass too?? Or isn't an M80 quite that poweful? Can't say I've ever laid my hands on one of those, probably for "legal" reasons, eh? I just wish I could get away with perching on the balcony on the back of my house, and plinking a few squirrels and rabbits from there with my .22, but someone would think I was a sniper... sure would make it easy to keep the population down a little, the walnut tree is right there at the back of the house. Sometimes I really HATE living in town....

i remember kids blowing sewer lids in the air with m-80's back when you could still find them around here. try doing that with a few firecrackers! Squirrels are just rats with bushy tails! Brian :blast:

    Dave,

Think  of a stick of dynamite. A stick of dynamite is an M1000, a half stick is an M500, a 10th of a stick is an M100. Not a lot of explosive power but would still blow your hand to shreeds. Removing glass might not be to bad an idea or just leave the garage door open. The noise would still have the same effect. I would think that you could possibly get them at a Military Surplus store or at a firearms dealer. If that does'nt pan out you might check with your local state malitia:puzzled:

  18. I'll stick with my live trap, and my pellet gun to finish 'em off...

    Big problem.
2 of my neighbors (retired guys) each set up live traps in September.
In talking with one of them yesterday, I learned the count is at 46 caught marked with spray paint and taken to the river. Released that is, not thrown into it, which is really what these tree rats deserve.
I usually end up with chipmunks in my garage which isn't as bad.
(yeah, yeah, it's my brother Chip, just to get that old joke out of the way.)

  20. What a joke! I just found out that there is a $500 fine for killing a squirrel within the Fargo city limits... Next time I'll bring it out here to work(out of town) and take care of business. Actually, if we weren't on the verge of winter here, I would have brought it out here and released it. But at this point, it would most likely have starved without a home and food supply stashed away for the winter.
