My question pertains to the two bolts that attach to the block just under the deck by the 6 & 8 cylinders. They sit under the exhaust manifold on my 70 and 72 455's. What are these for? It may be common knowledge to some folks, but I don't know. I was going to page thru my 70 assembly manual, but figured I'd try here first.
That's what I was thinking!!! But I've never owned a Buick motor that still had one on so I wasn't quite sure. :beer
Starter heat sheild is definately the answer. My engine still has it. They are a real pain to get to with the manifold in place!
The motors that I was referring to are low milers. The 70 only had 35,000 on it. Not sure about the 72 though, but it had practically no bearing wear and a faint cylinder ridge. I doubt the heat shields rotted off, I would have found remnants of one. The bolts for it were there, however. I didn't see one on my 76 block either (50,000 miles). I had the heads off and the starter off. Maybe its a just north of Pittsburgh thing. Apparently Dan is just on the border for where heat shields were installed, cause there ain't none up here.
