Engine has mild build matched to turbo 350 with B&M shift kit. RPM's aside, what would be the max speed to be able to get the tyranny to downshift from 3rd gear to 2nd pedal to the metal?
RPM cannot be put aside, the maximum speed is dependant on the transmission governor, which should be calibrated for an RPM. The speed it'll down shift from third to second would then be determined by the rear gears you are running. 4.11 gears might not down shift to second above 60mph, where as with 2.43 gears it might down shift at 90mph.
That sounds a bit odd. I have 3.23 gears and the 3-2 downshift at 45 is the sweetest downshift ever. Before I know it, I'm doing 70. It will still do the 3-2 downshift up to about 55. What do you know about your trans??
I could be wrong but I believe the cable on a turbo 350 is the kickdown cable and it is adjustable up on the bracket on the intake. Bill
I have 2.73s in my Skylark and it'll still kick down from 3rd to 2nd at about 68 mph, upshifts at about 72 when the pedal's on the metal. Burns rubber going from 1st into second, too, since it's a one-legger. I want posi, fatter tires and an even lower rear axle, someday.:Brow:
Yes the TH350 cable is adjustable: to request a kickdown. The cable is NOT for adjusting the kickdown SPEED; try the governor & vacuum modulator for that. Bruce Roe
My inquire was based on passing while on the highway. Seemed that in my case 45 was low. I remember tranny used to kick down to pass somehwere at the speed limit (55-65). I was told the adjusment is at the pedal but haven't looked yet.
Just adjusted the setting clip on my tranny kick down cable by the gas pedal. Looking at the marks on the sleeve it appeared it may have moved. Set it back to where it looked like it was originally and all is good. Kick own is back to normal! :TU:
