Sorry, I have been quite on the board lately. Great coverage of the event. It is a F.A.S.T. race and they will focus on the big dogs in F.A.S.T. I have no problem with that. That is why I subscribe to MCE. You can see the cars that HOT ROD and other car mags will not pay attention to. In fact, I can't wait to see a certain Green on Green land barage gracing the pages of MCE in the near future.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Like Bruno, I race to party!! :beer

    Not me.....strictly buisiness.

So Rusty, does this mean your going to show up at more parties? :Do No:

No, Donny isn't Canadian, the prime minister comment was an old gag regarding RDL and his comments about P/S coolers.

    Brian,
I'm sure you've said something wrong, only you're correct! :TU:
Hot Rod became the home of Chevy's in the '50's, and Camaros in the '60's. Still happens, look at the difference in the three page commercial for the new Camaro vs. a paragraph for the new Charger. Their bias has created a whole industry of competing magazine titles i.e. Super Ford, 5.0, Pontiacs (2), Mopar(s) Mustangs and Fast Fords, etc etc. We even have three or four Muscle Car rags that actually bother to cover Studebakers, Mopars, Mercurys and other strange and exotic vehicles. Imagine!
Matt King walked over to my car at Martin, looked under the hood, while we were busy bolting the heads back on after the gasket fiasco. He looked for maybe 5 seconds and walked away. No photos, no questions no interest. He was busy talking to someone on his cell, guess that was more interesting.
I am not upset at all by the coverage of "FAST". Without them we'd be back to our local tracks running brackets or spectating. I would love to see a little coverage (unbiased coverage) of the Stock classes and cars to spread the word a bit and pull in more spectators and cars. I think it'd be great if Pennington had to put a limit of 100 or 120 cars and then turn them away. I know, "dream on".

I'm sure he (Matt King) turned his nose up at alot of nice cars that day. Many nice cars have been in these events for a long time with no mag spreads. I personally don't care about it either. Tom Shaw wanted to do a piece on my car at PSMCDR. I told him I wasn't intertested. Much nicer ones out there to look at. And I told him that.
IMO Our events overall have done pretty well with coverage. :beer

Boy, for no coverage for the P/S ers how did he get on the cover or is he racing F.A.S.T. :Do No:

Terry, I said 'very welcome field filler'............maybe a bad choice of words, but I only meant in terms of coverage and 'wow' factor.

Face it, the timeslips are what people ask about first, and that is how we get statements like 'could only muster' and 'not in the running'....

It's not the FAST organizers fault, it's the writers who cover the event and there is probably not a lot that can be done there. It's just the way it will always be.

We all know how hard it is for Paul to get his '57 Vette to run 13.40's, but that time is nothing compared to a 10 second run, so it goes pretty much unnoticed. There are sooo many cool combinations that run in the 14's and 13's that the Hot Rod (in this case) guys just whistle right past. Nature of the business and really not why we should be showing up.

I know I speak for everyone here when I say the event organizer's efforts are really appreciated and the event is top notch.

I worked my ass off to get my car to your event, pissed off my wife by going, and had to bail on my shootout to race home to go on a yaught party Saturday night. I wouldn't do all that to be chum in the water.

So, let me get this straight: You were courted by Tom Shaw... and you turned him down!? Man, I wanna' be able to say that! "Sorry Tom, but I looked at your resume and just don't believe you're up to the task." [... I'm kidding here of course -- did you hear that Mr. Shaw?]

I'm just pointing out that my car is a 20 footer. There's alot of nice stuff in the staging lanes. And, alot of those people have been to all the events they can make. At first we were all happy to get a small pic of our shootouts in MCR. I just wasn't in the mood to spend all that time doing the shoot. I'm not into that. I've had the car a very long time and did the show/ lawn chair routine. Having much more fun with it now.
    Pick a lane.... :3gears: :3gears:

No complaints from me for coverage

I got my best magazine coverage at a F.A.S.T. race when Jeff Stunkard shot my car, then got a 4 page color feature in Muscle Car Review. (Helped puring JJ'ds beer into him the night before. I also got video taped for the American Musclecar "Screaming small blocks" episode on the Speed Channel at that meet. JJ also got good coverage at that meet.

Steve Statham also shot my car for MCE at the FAST meet at US41 at Morocco in that "hurricane". Winning the grand door prize at Martin this year was another major happiness event.

In each of those cases the racing itself kinda sucked, but no fault of the people that organized it. Going up to the starting line with my drivers' pull on pants back on the trailer at Commerce was probably a good thing as I was going to take the advice of another Pure Stocker to not even stop at the tree in my first round match. Getting DQ'd prevented that.

If your car is a 20 footer, Paul, mine is a 40 footer. I didn't think I'd ever get in any magazine, much less an interview on TV. I'm just thankful for getting it at all. The fact that they have all been at FAST events is ironic.

I'm just happy we have 2 races per year for these great cars. I'll be running a new one next year and really looking forward to the fun with the new car that we had in the developmant program on the Ramrod from the first 16.22 run to the consistent 13.50's a coupla years later (and even one 13.30  )

I'll be one of the first to preregister the 66 in the Martin race as soon as it opens. Thanks for putting it on.

Martin was a great event, and obviously alot of effort was put into it.The FS cars got every bit the show that the FAST cars did. Some people just need ,or crave more attention than others, while others just thank god there is a place to play.I have been doing this since 1987,and i can tell you that for a few years, there was NOTHING! I am thrilled to participate at both of these events, and i thank both parties for putting them on.Brian, why dont you just give in and build yourself a FAST car,how about an r-code 66 Fairlane???YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT!!

I think its a riot, that you told him no on the article, but I love your car, a 283 that runs like that is quite impressive

    Hot Rod on Martin

    Terry, Big dog.
Nobody's complaining about the event, the track or the way you run it. In fact, just the opposite. Nobody's complaining about the FAST cars. We all love to see them run. The only issue is with the coverage in HRM and I really can't complain about that, it's better than no coverage.
We all realize there'd be no place to run this stuff without your efforts at Martin, and Jensen/ Rising at Stanton. I appreciate your making Martin work. Thanks! :beer
I suppose the only complaint is that the fastest cars get the ink, and that's been going on since the dawn of time. Nothing you or anyone else can do about it. It probably doesn't matter since everybody who's interested in this stuff is already at Martin anyhow. The rest of them are pulling their pants up and running Hondas somewhere else. I'd just like to see this get bigger yet because it's a part of my history, like to see it carried on past your generation. We could tell them Lane's Torino was based off a 429, not a 427 or 428.
And Glasgo, don't talk Brian into a 427 Caliente, you might get what you wish for! Did you ever run at Magnolia, when?

You guy`s have NO idea on what it takes to get a magazine like Hot Rod to come out and cover a event. Keep in mind they have "Drag Week", Pump Gas Drags", "Hot Rod Power Tour", ect. They have their own events up the azs to feature, trust me..

Am I the only one who actually counted the Pure Stocks pictured vs the FAST cars pictured? 2 Pure Stocks to one FAST (easy) and we couldn`t be happier. :Do No: In public or private we have never counted the PS guy`s as "filler", as a matter of fact it`s just like Terry just stated we have gone to bat grabbing equal prizes for both class, we give away tons of door prizes to show everybody it`s not all about winning but just showing up. I love that there`s about 3 people who think there`s still a FAST vs Pure Stock fight going on. :Dou: Everybody knows who I`m taking about, it`s kind of funny at this point..   News flash: The battle is over for 99% of the people involved. :TU:
