Hi Len, its been a while but basically there are little one way tabs molded into the lens on the sides. You need to squeeze the sides (or one side) together just enough to pop it out, probably best to just do one side at a time (I used a small screwdriver with a blunt tip). Careful here, its 30+ year old plastic, easy to break. The bulb is fun to find too, with little metal "loops" on each end... I also discovered way back if you leave the light on too long it will actually crack the mirror (it did on my car anyway). Later Tim
Pull the white lens out first, then pull out the gray plastic component, which should bring the whole light assembly with it. Just be careful with the gray plastic piece -- very fragile, easy to break. Try the light before you reinstall it by using a temporary ground wire. Could be that the tabs securing the bulb itself are slightly corroded or too loose, so clean them up and tighten them as you see fit. -- Steve
The bulb works fine. I had to adjust the contact above, it wasn't hitting the wire terminal. Thanks. Len
Just something odd here; I never tried to fix my map light b/c I never really needed it - but the only time it ever worked was our annual ski trip from the University of Toledo to Northern Michagan. It would just spontaneously work, once a year, for 5 years.
