Local tv station had a survey and a full 10% said that Nov 11 was "just another day off" and another 17% said "not very important"....

It really makes me mad that these people do not appreciate the sacrifice that so many made so we can have our cushy pathetic luxery lined lives....

Someone once said (I don't recall who) "those that don't know history are doomed to repeat it"...and as you watch the world news, you see its starting all over again.....

    Tim,
I agree with you 100%. A lot of people fought hard for our freedom. In 8 years of service I was never called on to go to war. Now that I'm out of service, I don't get the day off. There are a lot of people who expect to get the day off that didn't serve a single day. If people don't apprecite their freedom, maybe they should move to another country and see how the quality of life is.

I agree also. This was the first year I got veterans day off. I'm very proud to have served as a gunner on the buff (B-52). The Gunners I served with were great guys, who enjoyed old cars as much as me and taught me the pride I have now for serving my country.

I hear ya. Here in Sudbury we used to have parades downtown and everyone would come out to pay respect to the people that fought for our freedom. Damn shame if you ask me. Now we don't even have a parade. People have a hard time stopping for a moment of silence at 11:00.

    I know I did and I was DAMN PROUD!!:blast:

    Respectfully Marc

I heard this same thing and was truly disappointed in the ignorance of some people. My family lost over 2/3 of its number in WWII, every Nov 11 the last of the family line lays a wreath at the family memorial erected in 47.

I caught the 1AM redeye to Ottawa, 6:30AM VIA to Cornwall, drove to Cemetary for 10AM-2PM cermony, 11PM flight home...

...and I feel a lot better than if I'd sat on the sofa and watched TV all day...

:Do No: I agree that 9-11 was very tragic for the victims and their families. Patriotism in this country is not what it use to be. I know that I will get hammered for this but the truth is I was not very happy with the outpouring of financial support for the victims and their families by our government. I remember 58,000 guys whose families got 10 Grand and a metal box! I remember guys coming home with a police escort thru the airport and they were not on their way to a parade. I know of guys who need help and the VA just shrugs them off. Budget cuts you know. My own patriotism is not what is was 35 years ago. The only time I'm comfortable wearing my Colors ia at a Viet Nam Vets Reunion.Believe it or not this is not a personal sour grapes issue. I have my health, a good job, a nice family, a caring church and a 455 STGE 1 BUICK. I just think that this country should ALSO REMEMBER those who GAVE ALL and got LITTLE IN RETURN while doing what their COUNTRY wanted them to do!

I'm with you Jake, I can definitely see offering them help, but the rest is rediculous. Now I understand the McVey blast victims are complaining because they didn't get any free money...

Guys like you have definitely earned the right to speak your mind. I am humbled every time I think of what some of our vets went through, and appreciate any of those that have served. That is something I didn't ever do.

I agree with the posts above. My brothers came home from Viet Nam and were fearful for their lives as they walked thru the airport on their return to stateside. We as a countr have always put very little significance on the loss of our soldiers because they were "doing their duty". Our freedoms are what they are because they and the many before them "did their duty". I think the thing that burns me also is that we pour tons of foreign aid to these countries that hate us and let our own live in the streets without basic needs being met. Time to cut them off and take care of our own. Our country is dying before our eyes and we are more worried about trade with a country that despises us and what we stand for.
