ok this green horn needs assistance once again, on my way to get my buick overhauled some shaking started to occur. what could be the problem? it begins with the gas pedal and continues untill it get to the steering wheel, the shaking only occurs from 20-55 MPH im totally at a loss! i have a 67 riviera
Major Melt Down! Pt 2 I definatly need to replace my front end, which cars are compatiable with my car for disk breaks?
Major Melt Down! Pt 3 where can i get the whole front end done correctly for my 1967 buick riviera done right in los angeles ca? i think the whole things in time for a replacement i dont think the previous owner took very good care of her... :ball:
Meltdown Need more details: Mileage, tires(new/old) balanced?, last time it was aligned, front end shape (ball joints, tie rods, idler arm, shocks, ect.) drive line or front end? Shake, Rattle 'n Roll Wow - another Riviera ! :beer
Re: Meltdown milage reads near 90,000, last time it was aligned is unknown, front end has no damage, from what i can tell everything is ok, but to be honest, i wouldnt know how to tell if anything was wrong... the previous ownwer melted the shocks to lower it, and that pisses me off, so my best bet is to just replace the whole front ends, my buddy took a quick look at it and says my bushles need to be replaced definatly, and that id probably be best to redo everything
Meltdown - all parts Noah - sounds like you have a high mileage, neglected/butchered front end. Take it to a tire shop/ front end shop and ask them to check it out. Most shops have qualified technicians that will inspect the front end and provide a quotation for repairs. There is usually no charge for this service provided you have the work done there. :TU:
should the need arise, which car front ends are compatible with mine? i would like disk breaks, ya know, so i dont collide with some one
Ask around at a car dealership or local garage and see if there is a "frame" or "chassis" shop. DON'T rely on a local garage to rebuild your front end! They MUST get the correct parts! And the local parts house WON'T have them. They can only be had from a Buock supplier like CARS, Kanter or Buick World. I like to joke and see just how bad the auto parts places are, so I ask for an upper ball joint for my 69 every once in a while. They always hand be some dinky bolt-in Nova ball joint! Ours are WELDED in! And they are HUGE! No parts house has EVER had them in stock or available. And the locsl garage WON'T weld in your upper ball joint, that's for sure. visit my suppliers page and call a couple of the suppliers and ask their advice. Jim Macy at Buick World is very knowledgable about Rivs. my webpage URL is in my tag below.
Where in L.A.? If you're close to the west side or the south bay then the best place I know of is this one; Johnson's Wheel Alignment & Brake Service 340 Van Ness Avenue, Torrance, CA 90501 (310) 533-1511 They have a fully equipped frame shop and have done quality work for me, my family, and freinds for years. Tony and his people are honest and thorough. :TU:
My electra sat 12 years and only had 93k on it I took it to a shop and was handed a estimate of 1300$ after their 22 point inspection of the suspension. I had very little sign of a problem let alone the fact nearly the whole front end was diagnosed as bad. How sick.... Have you checked the harmonic balancer on the engine? I had the one on my 84 stang go out, it shook the dash the steering and all until a certain speed then it was fine and leveled out.
viberation Just a scientific wild guess. Before diving into the front end, unless there is very obviously something worn out, just crawl under the car and have a friend move the steering wheel back and forth, WITH THE ENG. OFF, and look for loose joints, ect. Take a hard look at the motor mounts, and the trans mount. also check the center support bearing and mount in the middle of the drive shaft. :Smarty:
