Main Bolts

Has anybody ever actually lost a set of mains from bolt failure?

I'm upgrading my "mild budget" engine for power and unfortunately I didn't put studs in it when I built it. You know how it goes. I really don't want to have to disassemble the whole thing to install studs and line-hone.

I'm wondering if the bolts ever actually have a problem since the main webs are the problem area for our flexi-flyer block.

Or maybe put another way, how far have you pushed a bolted main block and what were the results?

I used bolts in my engine when built 10+ years ago. It's a 10:1 street strip motor that I have reved to 6500 on many occasions. I have not had any troble...yet. I did have it balanced, which does make a differance.

I am planning to use studs in my next engine though.

Main cap walk is the big problem. Seen on a couple of motors I've built. Studs help prevent that.
