I bought a cam from a board member on here for a good price and just need some info on it. Its a lunati sp1 253-270 with 110 LS. I did not get a cam card with it so i will call lunati and get that info. Does anybody know what compression ratio is needed and is it a good buick cam and is it a fast ramp cam and what the lift is. My car has 390 gears and a 3500 stall and stage 1 heads with a full race port. Also will be using a wildcat cool runner intake and a 1000 silver claw carb. Will this cam be too much cam for a pump gas motor? If so What would be a good cam for a 10 to 1 motor as i am getting ready to rebuild this motor and have not ordered the pistons yet. The heads are 64cc chambers and the block is decked 020 the car is a 70 GS Stage 1. (Thanks in advance for any info on this matter) Billy :beer

I used to run that cam in my GS. I was running 10.9 to 1 compression. I don't know if I still have the cam card. It should be right around mid .500 lift. Idles around 900.
It is a fast ramp, revs easy to 6400. I love that cam. Jim Burek

I have that same cam as a spare. I should have the cam card at home. I'm almost positive. I will post the numbers tomorrow morning. PM me your address and I will also mail a copy of the card.

    Billy,

I don't know where I put the card. I know I have it. I will look later tonight or tomorrow morning. Also, I'm almost positive that cam is the SP4 (new version) and not the SP1. The new version is yours (253-270), the old version is 253-266. I loved that cam (new version). The lift of your cam is .541 Int and .529 Exh with 1.55 (stock) rockers. To determine your lift (if different ratio than 1.55 which is stock), divide lift by 1.55 (this gives lobe lift), then multiply by your rocker ratio. And yes, that cam is a 110 LS.

I will look for the card some more and let you know.

    Billy,

I'm still looking for the card. I bought my cam from Torque Tech. Are they still in business? I have 800-531-5584 and 912-242-0691 as their phone numbers from an old catalog.

    I'll keep looking!

I bought the same cam (SP-4 advertised) and other special grinds from lunati and all were stamped SP1 as a prefix to the grind number. I 'm looking at two grinds here, an SP1 241-248 110 and the SP1 253-270 -110. and can visually see the difference. So don't think the SP1 prefix stamp means its an ordinary SP1 cam. I think the SP-1 with a suffixed grind number, signified it was a Lunati special order.

BTW that SP-1 253-270 110 is a great cam using a 10.5 to 11Cr. I ran 70 stocker replacement notched pistons with a .020 steel gasket. .015 deck and 62 cc ported 430 2.13/1.75 valve heads, an old TA intake , hogged out 930 holley with 3.73 gears and a 4000 SP, and loved it. I am thinking of going back to it in my next motor.

I ran a Lunati 255/265 on 108LC with a 10.0 comp motor on 125-175 shot of nitrous and all I ever ran was pump gas even on nitrous. My head were ported by myself and flowed 266/190, i also polished the combustion chambers. It idled at 850 and ran great. It really responded well to the nitrous as I pick up .4+ tenths and 8 mph in the 1/8 mi . What made it even better was the 2004r overdrive with 9" non-lock up. I think yours will work well with the 1000 Silver Claw as my 850 picked up over a tenth with a carb spacer indicating it needed a larger carb.

    I had that cam in my 3917 lb GS about 5 years ago. It was a 11.44-1 464, Iron heads flowing 253 cfm, TA SP1, 850 Holley, 3300 converter, 3.73 gear, 1 7/8 headers. It ran 11.65 @ 113.

Why is it everyone HAD this cam? What did you guys replace it with and do you like the newer grinds better and why?

Looking to move up from the 224/236 and B4B to a heftier cam and probably SP1 intake. At my elevation I'll need a vacuum pump but that shouldn't be a big deal (I hope).. only pull 10" with the 224 cam now.
