Someone told me they had had a problem with a few Lunati cams getting their lobes flattened by double springs in their valvetrain that had worked fine with equivilant lift offerings from crower.

Anyone had any trouble with Lunati sticks going soft on you?

Just asking around before I jam this thing into my motor only to have it detonate.

I think just about ANY cam 'could' go flat when broken in on double springs.

It's always best to break the cam in with the inner springs taken out...or lighter springs altogether.:TU:

I know of no problems with Lunati brand cams being more likely to go flat than any other brand. I have used Lunati for quite a few yearsin the past with no problems.
Usually, a cam goes flat due to lifter problems , not necessarily cam problems. I have broken in several Buick 455 hydraulic cams with 130 pounds on the seat and have'nt had one go flat yet. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES

Sweet! Thanks guys. I'll break it in with the stock springs then. I think they would break taking 0.526 / 0.550 lift if I tried to actually run with them but they'll hopefully survive low rev breakin.

They have had 30 years worth of heat cycling to harden them!

WHOA! You'd better be careful there. Those stock springs may very well go into coil bind at .550 lift. If you coil bind the spring, you will most assuredly kill the cam. Jim Burek

I dont even know what that means but it sounds nasty. Thanks for the advice Jim! You probably saved me some trouble.

I was going to get the springs, retainers and new valves from TA but I think i'll give your shop a call this coming week after I get paid since the boss just gave me permission to spend 700 bucks on the Skylark! ( once i get paid )

Ooo.. that reminds me.. I need new pushrods and lifters as well.

    *sigh*

    It never ends does it?
