A winning Florida lottery ticket that was purchased in a Publix Supermarket in Jacksonville six months ago and not cashed in, expired today. It was worth $36 million.

I hope whoever won never finds his or her ticket. I don't exactly know where the proceeds from lottery intake go to in the state of Florida, but based on this non-payout, I hope the Florida lottery commission has some integrity with their earnings.

80% supposedly goes to the Florida Department of Education, The other 20% is supposed to go to the State Lottery Commission to be added to the lottery's prize money. Please note the use of the word supposed - this is Florida after all.

I read an article a year or so back about a winning lottery ticket was not claimed in Pa that was worth 40+ million dollars. The owner never claimed it. Then the other part of the story came out. It appeared an elderly man had purchased the winning ticket but had passed away before being able to claim it. It was found out that he had kept his lottery tickets in his kitchen in a drawer. As the family was going through his estate and readying things for a sale of the house, the tickets were found, but too late to claim. The one son did a search and found out that not only 1 was a big dollar amount, but there was a second for $100,000. That too was too far past the claim deadline..The commonwealth of Pa absorbed that payout in, and no payout to anyone...
