The passenger sport mirror on my car is slightly loose. The bracket is rivited on the car and it is original. The car still has factory paint on that side. The bracket is just slightly loose...but when the mirror is put on, it is noticably loose.

Just wondering... is there any "trick" that I could do to tighten the rivets without taking them out? Has anyone tried a shim under the rubber gasket? If anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate them. Thanks! Paul

I think they were anchored with 5/16" hex head screws. Maybe rivets in some plants. Only way to fix it is to remove the rivets and use sheet metal screws.

    Paul:

There is a threaded steel insert you can use to put a threaded sleeve into sheet metal. They call them Nut-serts. Its anchored in place by using a special pair of pliers and swedges into a predrilled hole. I've used them many times. It would enable you to use a machine screw (like 1/4 x 20) to anchor the mirror bracket to the door. Only thing is it takes a special tool to install them.
Chances are you could find a sheet metal fab shop and they could install them for you. I used them to anchor the door pull straps on my GN instead of using sheet metal screws, which seem to loosen over time, especially in that application. A new rivet tightened down correctly will also anchor that bracket again. Just my .02.
