Looking for suggestions and expert advice: Upgrading my 1970 455 engine to a modern 455 engine

I think a carb and headers will get you there. 750 is too small. I'm thinking the 850 will get you where you want to be, and a good pair of Super Scavengers will put you over the top. Don't knock those 2.93 gears, they really shine at cruising speed. I ran a stock 70 455, small valve heads, stock converter, 800 qjet, sp2x cam, and could obliterate anyone at 60mph. Very fun cruiser. Used to go up on rte 89 and pick fights, even lost 3 staties. Boy were they mad.

That’s what’s nice about OEM fuel injection, the aftermarket, not so much, their stuff is loaded with issues.

A properly functioning carb does the same thing the barbaric aftermarket TBI does, and does it more reliably IMHO.

That all sounds good ED. I'm not into computers, Iam much better with a screwdriver and wrench in my hand. LoL

That said, you make some very good points.
My idea of modern parts, up to date pistons (newer than 1970), roller camshafts, roller rockers,
more efficient intake manifolds, modern digital ignition systems, better ignition plug wires. Better carburetors, better tube headers,
    stronger differentials.
I grew-up in the late 60's and 70's with cars. In the last 50+ years there has been a huge amount of technical improvements
that also include stronger metal alloys, development of aluminum heads and better (CNC) machining processes, just to name a few.
It's really exciting to be in this time zone.
I prefer carburetors, I can appreciate Turbo & superchargers. I'm just not a RestoMod type of guy. I like to see what the original car looked like in its year. My first muscle car was a 1956 Chevy Belair, I loved the look of that car.
Nobody in my area had a 50's ventage hot rod in the 70's, so I got a lot of looks.
When I blew off a 70 BB Chevelle, the guy would ask me what I had for an engine, and he couldn't understand how a
mouse motor 327 could smoke his bad Chevelle. The one thing that got everybody's attention, was my Tunnel Ram manifold. LOL

Rte 89!!!! I used to drive up 89 when I was in the Navy, going to my buddy's place in Sharon VT. The only town I've ever been to that couldn't pick up radio reception. Lol
Everybody had tape players. You couldn't find a music tape in the stores; they were all bought out.:D

I agree, that's why Holley now has Version 2 EFI. Just to suck more money out of you instead of just building a software upgrade, you have to buy a complete new EFI.

Sorry, didn't pick-up on the joke, haven't read Car Review. The only car I have seen tied to a tree was a Cop's car on Dukes of Hazard.:D

If you go to Quadra jet, you need to find a vintage Carter 1000 TQ you won’t be disappointed. In fact you’re set up right you’re probably pull the front wheel off the ground in front of your house. I actually switched a Chevy buddy with that stunt in front of my house. It’s OK. That’s what the mighty hemi owner said about the stage 1 which started the hemi, stage 1 shoot outs back in the 80s.

Super cool. I haven't seen a Thermal Q in years.
I've always read, they were the best Carbs. Talking about a "rare" carb. Fat chance of finding one of these.
Next, how many people on this planet can rebuild this carb????

Great mileage also just as good as a Quadra jet, till you stomp on it.

Went to the weekend swap meet. Not a auto parts one..... Your basic SM. I picket up 5 or 6 of them monsters for for 25 or 30$..... Gave them to a gearhead I knew he rebuilt them then sold them.... I know he gave $500,, I think he gave me a couple hundred more,,, or that could have been another deal all together....

No, my engine is a street engine. The cam was a custom grind that on retrospect wasn't the best cam, but it was the cam I brought to the dance.

Are you able to rue pump gas with a 12.5: 1 CR engine??? If you do, how do you manage to accomplish that? VET
