Correct. IIRC, PJ's had advertised it at hemmings online or carsonline at the time, and I had sent the link around to Mike S., Ajesh and a couple of others and we were trying to figure out if it was a real bbb car or not. Can't remember the asking price though.

Correct. I think it may have been from when PJ's had it on ebay or one of the other sites I mentioned.

Not a GSX , No SCO on the trim tag. But a nice GS 350 GSX clone.

The SCO was not on the 71 cowl tag to represent a GSX. The X cars were low body number not a SCO thing Per Se to identify a GSX car. I was second guessing myself a little and asked David Walker who is writing a book on the GSX cars and this is his reply.

It's my understanding that the 71 & 72 were ordered under SCO but were not tagged on the plate. The 71's are reported to have low body numbers. Also the only place I've seen the SCO was on a reported window sticker.

I know that car was a real X But it was a 350 car not a 455. I told Dave it might come back to be an issue, but I don't know under what circumstances he sold it or if he disclosed the motor, transmission swap..

Was this the car renovated at the Baybury Buick Farm in Vermont?

Last I seen it, (1991-1992) it was freshly restored and owned by Dave Shipe..He went through a divorce and had to sell it. It went to someone in the Florida area..

Dave S. wanted a BBB when he restored that GSX back in the 90's so he installed a BBB and had the car he wanted. Not worried about matching numbers engine. I don't remember if it came with an engine or not when he got it. Ran 12's all stock appearing. He said about the only thing he didn't change on the car to make it a 100% accurate BBB car was the steering coupler or something like that IIRC. He drove it to the GS Nationals many times back in the 90's. I know when he sold it to a GM collector in Florida he told the guy that it started as a 350 GSX so somebody cooked up a window sticker.

    Jim,

That is the gold one that you are thinking of, on ebay again right now I think.

Was not me, I checked my records and I did not make a window sticker for a '71 GSX with that vin number. I don't see Dave S. in my records either.

The letters "SCO" were not stamped on the cowl tag.

The body number on the trim tag is 001247 Build date 05c

That falls right in the build time frame and low body number...

Yes, that is a low body number for a late may build.

I spoke to Duane this morning and we discussed this car. He knows the car. The gentleman that owned it back in the early 90's (DS) did a motor swap to a 455/turbo 400 from the original 350/turbo 350. There is no known documentation on the car to prove it is a GSX but tons of anecdotal data to say it is a GSX. The window sticker, if it says it was built as a 455, is incorrect in that regard.
