Can anyone give me a part number or link to a place I can get an electric choke to replace the hot air style integral choke on a 79 chevy q jet?
Looks like the Edelbrock part number 1932 will work but first I will hit the junk yard to try to rob one off a later q jet.... If anyone finds any other part numbers let me know...
I suggest one of the supporters on this site, such as Ruggles or Gessler. I suggest new, as the older, used parts were known for losing tension, causing adjustment problems. make sure that you plug the vacuum leak in the housing when making the conversion, and remove the gasket from the housing. The electric choke will require contact to the housing for its ground connection.
We sell one for the later hot-air style carburetors. It clocks correctly and comes with a pigtail for the wiring harness, and clips and screws.....Cliff http://www.cliffshighperformance.com/
Sean,if you find one at the boneyard,it will have small rivets on the part locking the adjustment. If you are carefull drilling the rivets out you can drill and tap the holes for some screws. That mod will allow you to fine tune the operation of the choke to the weather.I believe that the bi metal coils are still being sold, that's a good upgrade for a Q-Jet.
