Have a 3" system to flow-masters before axel with turn downs. Want to get some tail pipes that fit well. 2.5 or 3". What works? Thanks, Kevin
I really like the TA tailpipes and exhaust systems. I have used both 2 1/2" and 3" systems and they fit great. I have a complete TA 2 1/2" system sitting in the garage waiting to go on my car when I install the 455
I saw the torque techs are gone for the a bodies, how do the 3" tails from TA look installed.Do the 2.5" tuck in better? Thanks for the replies!
I have a new set of exhaust pipes from the mufflers back sold originally the GSCA but made by Torque Tech. These are 20 year plus old but were never installed. These are not 3". I recall they are 2.5" . If you know someone that is going to the event at Piedmont Dragway on early May, I could deliver them. These parts cannot be cost effectively shipped.
I like how the Flowmaster American thunder tail pipes fit. They tuck up behind the bumper quite well. These are 2.5"
Thanks Jim, They do tuck up nicely. That is what I am looking for, something that doesn't hang down under the bottom of the quarter panel. Great pictures and beautiful car! Wonder if these would have a similar fit at 3" https://www.amazon.com/Flowmaster-15818-Prebend-Tailpipes-3-00/dp/B001JQZ76Q/ref=s9u_simh_gw_i1?
If you get a 3" muffler, make sure it is 3" all the way through. Some of the cheaper mufflers just put a 3" stub on each end. You can also run a small tailpipe after the muffler because the exhaust gases cool, needing less pipe, but I always run the same diameter front to back. I always liked the Torque Tech stuff, but they are gone now. I am now in the process of installing a 3.5" system with a bunch of hand-picked parts from different suppliers. The mufflers are also 3.5" from Dynomax.
Gardner is great for restorations but not for performance. Good points on some mufflers not being true 3 inch and not needing as much pipe after the mufflers. I run 3 inch x pipe in front of mufflers, Pypes 3 inch offset mufflers, and a set of Hogan 2 1/2 pipes to n-25 exit. Sounds great, no drone.
I use the Gardner systems on concours restorations. They are very nice.I just don't use them for performance applications.
