I use my own car for work and put on about 35k miles a year just for work.. I get 53.5 cents a mile and have been running my Dodge Magnum STX thats paid. It has 119,000 on it now and will want to replace it next year in the fall. Looking at these 2 in AWD. I picked them because they seem to lose their value the fasted. I like the Buick because, well its a Buick but I like the Caddy looks. I want the heated seats but like the cool seats in the Caddy too. I like all the extras in the Caddy but they also scare me because of all the electronics.

Whats the bad on these cars?

    Thanks for you input.

Being from Denmark, I only know the Opel Insignia, which is the same car is the Regal.. I wouldn't touch it with a long stick.. They have a lot of expensive fails and flaws. The whole undercarriage is calvanized, but they managed to do it so bad that it boils up and so on.. Also size wise, the car is much smaller than it appears.. And what's up with the tail lights inside the trunk when you open the wagon up?

Not sure you can use it, but there it is :)

I had terrible luck with my 2014 Regal GS. I bought it Certified Pre Owned, it had 4 bent wheels because the tires on the 20" wheels are the thickness of a rubber band. Just 8,000 miles later the engine let go, then I started getting AWD faults and it was looking like it would need a new rear differential oil pump. I also found 2 torn axle boots while inspecting the rear diff. It was due for front brakes soon, pads and rotors alone were looking like $450 just in parts because the calipers have brembo painted on them. I ended up trading it in for a Focus RS.

The 2.0t engines used in the Regal GS, and some ATS and CTS are prone to piston ringland failure. There has been no official fix but it seems cars made after 2016 have been okay.

Besides those issues I liked my GS for the most part, it wasn't particularly fast but it was comfortable and the AWD worked well. It has some nice features like the adaptive cruise control and blind spot alert. If you get one, the 19" wheels will provide a more comfortable ride than the nicer looking 20s.

WOW, Buick is out! What ever happened in the end with the camshaft issue?

I can't speak to the 2.0 issue, but I know that all parts being the same, it'll cost more if you say it's for a Cadillac than a Buick or Chevy. I learned how to cross-reference quick when it came to this. It's crazy. The same part, say a wiper motor, will be $113 for a Chevy and the exact same motor with a Cadillac part # will $465.

Even Aston Martins and Maserati's are like that. A lot of parts come from Ford and Volvo in the case of the Aston's. A $1000 wiper motor all of a sudden costs $125 if you know where it actually comes from. And even the key fob. Peel off the "leather" on it and it's from Volvo, $30, not $350.

That was a rhetorical question. I know why.
I would eliminate any GM used car. You can get them cheaper,
but it's a big gamble. Just my 2 cents worth.

I would go for the v6 in the Caddy.

Love our 2014 Regal GS AWD. No problems whatsoever but we bought new. I think virtually any used car could be trouble.

    I do have a 2002 Mustang GT conv. 5 speed. ;)
My fifth one. No problems with any of them.
It's always a gamble with any used car

I would avoid that car in AWD form, but may consider it as a FWD only optioned car. Its basically an Opel as far as manufacturing, but the rear drive differential/oil pump driven unit is a SAAB as far as I can tell. I am in the middle of pulling mine apart AGAIN as we speak. The stealership had it in there on three separate occasions for the same issue, and after a couple thousand in educating their staff....I decided to just take it home. Here is the good part, and the reason they are literally depreciating by the day. Mine only has 55,000 miles on it and GM would not do a thing about it because it is too old(2010-up uses same SAAB engineerting). There have been service bulletins that do a quick fix for DEALER STOCK ONLY vehicles, but you do not want an AWD Caddy OR Buick in these years. Its a dern shame because they are nice looking and driving cars, but the rear is not the only problems that I and many others have had. They are just too pricey to be buying without a real drivetrain warranty, and worse yet, even with a warranty who wants to sit around waiting for their low mileage vehicle to be driveable. I will even go as far as to say that this is what happens when we bail out failing companies.....Somebody gets to pay.

I have had my 2012 CTS (coupe) for a little over a year now and really enjoy it. I test drove a 2014 Regal and was unimpressed. I think you will be happy with the CTS. Mine is rear-wheel drive v6.

One other thing to mention since you are wanting the heated seats.... on the CTS you can get the heated steering wheel option. I don't use it much down here in Texas but this time of year its a very nice feature to have!
