I am looking at a 72 Skylark custom conv. tomorrow and wondered if anyone can tell me what to look at specifically. I will look for typical a-body rust but do convts have any problems is should look closer at? I no nothing about convt's and really would rather have a hardtop but the price and parts seem like a good deal. I just want to make sure I check out all the problem spots and need any help/ info on convts. I know the top frame rusts but where? Any opinions?o No: Any Help appreciated. Thanks Dustin :TU:
Look for corrosion under the rear seat and inside the 3 piece frame rail where mud tends to collect. Also drop the top looking freedom of movement and for the tell tell bumps of rust in the header bow on the front windshield. A new one costs about $400.00 shipped. The top condition is important --a nice one installed is about 1K. Check the top support rack for bends or damage.
Thanks Jim I will check what you mentioned. I'm mainly looking at it to get the parts.. He has NOS fenders. The car has NOS 1/4's on it. If I purchase the car I will probably use it for parts or sell it. I not a convt. person. Thanks for info. Dustin
