This is totally sweet:3gears: :TU: One of the best and nicest looking clones for sale on ebay i've ever seen on ebay. It appears to be in immaculate condition too. Very nice. I don't know if"the-price-is-right" though. But it is well worth looking into!!!!! link:http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16124&item=2458493811 I like the exhaust tips:bglasses: -Cody
Not bad looking, but a GS grill would improve the car a lot. Secondly, is it just me or are the VINs never posted for the 'shady' cars? A few things that could be nit-picked, but I'll leave it alone.
Yeah, a GS grill would make it look more "identical" than a regular skylark grill. The grills give away the identity of the car. And no, I realize the "good" and "perfecto" cars on ebay never show the vins. makes me wonder sometimes. Oh well. It is definitley good for a clone. Love those exhaust tips too. -Cody
Also, I have a question. There was no real GSX's with buick 350's in them, were there?o No: I remember seeing a red "GSX" on ebay a few months back from "auto investors" and the guy said it was a real one, with a buick 350 in it, and the vin was not correct for a GSX. Anyone else seen that auction? There was big talk on the board about it when he was selling it. I have heard rumors......but have no proof of a GSX with a 350. Thanks -Cody
In '71 and '72 the GSX was an appearance option on the GS series. This means you could, and there were '71 and '72 GSXs with 350s in them. There were however NEVER any GSX converts built. BTW, although the "auto investers" car could be real in theory, the car has a skylark VIN and therefore is not a GSX. :Smarty:
I don't know guys, that car could be a real nice car or garbage. Those pictures are the worst I have ever seen on Ebay. You can't see any detail. It looks as though he painted the valvecovers yellow. I wonder about a guy that would do that, he can't be a buick guy. I don't think I would buy any car on Ebay without looking at it in person. Pictures can hide alot.
Very nice job on that car. However, it hard to see how one could be deemed to have "cloned" something that never was but just should have been. We have some expertise in that area ourselves.
Larry I agree. I would never buy a car on ebay without first seeing it in person or have someone I really trust look at it for me. Last Spring I saw a white GS Stage 1 convertible for sale in Mississippi. From the numerous pictures on ebay, which were very sharp and clear, the car looked as though it had recently undergone an frame-off resto. The owner talked about how nice this car was and the photos seemed to confirm what he was saying. My wife and I drove to see it. As we approached the house where the car was located, the car was in the driveway with the top down. It looked fantastic. I thought I had found a jewel for a really reasonable price. However, as we approached the vehicle we noticed that the paint was flat, the body panels were not straight and the interior was pretty rough. We took it for a complimentary drive and man what a dog, performance wise. Had I not already owned a Stage 1 GS and already been exposed to their brute power I would have left there disenchanted about BBB's. A few months later, we drove to Chicago to look at a 455 GS "replica" that the owner described as "choice." He was asking in the high $20,000.00. When we got there, the car was in his garage behind other vehicles, it had been painted, but not the whole thing so it was two different colors and the fenders were still from a skylark and had some kind of chrome faux vents on the side. He could not even start the car. What a wasted trip except for being in Chicago. I love that city and always enjoy being there. Needless to say, I learned a very valuable lesson. Don't bid on a car on ebay unless you have first seen the car in person and know what you are getting into.
I agree. Wise decision. Sometimes they will leave something out untill the last minute and then say"oh, i almost forgot, this is not a numbers matching car" That happens once in awhile. Speaking of seeing cars in person, i need to go to fortmadison iowa to see that Gold '70 GS that they had sitting out for a long time. It has the correct emblems on it, but I haven't gathered enough time to do it. I am going to take a look at the vin and see if it is a #'s matching GS. It's in rough condition with the motor and hood out of it. Somebody wanted that motor:Brow: -Cody
The 71 skylark and gs share the same vin. If someone had no documents on the car, what tell tale signs are there to tell whether a gs/gsx is real or clone in 71? Was there any reason that buick decided to combine the skylark/gs vins?
I thought the 71 Skylark and GS had different VIN's, but there was no distinguishing VIN between the GS350 and GS455.
